Title: 30th Anniv. of Best Selling Car
Post by: cosworth151 on June 04, 2009, 12:37:45 PM
The best selling car in the US is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It's not the Taurus, Camery or Accord. I'll bet it was the first car that many of you drove.

It's the Little Tykes Cozy Coupe!

The Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum is adding one of the cars to its collection of classic vehicles.

I never had one of those, but when I was little, I had a metal fire engine pedal car.

Functional steering, though the siren was gummed up with something (quite possibly gum...)

Wow! Me too, Jeri. No siren on mine though, but it did have ladders. I'm afraid I was much too big for the cozy coupe before it ever came out.

I missed out on the pedal cars, but when I was a bit older, I had a classic bike.  The CCM Mustang Maurader, with 3 speeds.  It was a bit like this one, but mine had wrap around handlebars and looked a lot meaner (in my minds' eye some 35 years ago anyhow).

In Britain the Mustang Maurader look-alike bike was a Rayleigh Chopper, trouble is I was in my twenties when it came out so the only chance I got to try it was when one of my nephews got one for his Birthday.

Me and his dad waited until he was in bed and had a quick spin on the bike, marvellous how alchohol can bring out the kid in you.  :-[

As for the cozy coupe, plastic toys hadn't been invented when I was a toddler. :D

Me too!!
At least until a pak of kids spotted me pedalling down the sidewalk and piled on for a ride. It lasted about two pedal strokes until the rear axle broke and that was the end of that car.

Oh, you didn't miss much, bikes kick the crap out of pedal cars ;-)

My wee man has one of them in the back garden. He zips about in it while the big man hangs over the roof, he also loves it when daddy does donuts!!
