Title: Birthday Time
Post by: Wizzo on January 15, 2007, 05:55:08 PM

It's almost 1 year since I started GPWizard (Feb 9th) and I feel its only appropriate to reward the people that have helped make the site what it is today.

This is a competition with a difference:

It is based on member activity and the top 3 members will each win a prize. This may seem unfair at first but my (secret) calculations will be based on 'your activity' since you have been a member.

I am telling you this now because your activity over the next month could make all the difference!

The Prize for each member with the highest activity is a genuine F1 Carbon Fibre Pen, these pens are fabulous and well worth having. Are there no boundaries to my generosity?  ::)

Get posting men (and women) and we will see who stands on the podium at the end of the race!

Good Luck.  :good:

Which team do i support?
I have a nice Biro Pen for the first member who is correct.
This is not as posh as the Wizards but has History.

A Hungarian journalist named Laszlo Biro invented the first ballpoint pen in 1938. Biro had noticed that the type of ink used in newspaper printing dried quickly, leaving the paper dry and smudge-free. He decided to create a pen using the same type of ink. The thicker ink would not flow from a regular pen nib and Biro had to devise a new type of point. He did so by fitting his pen with a tiny ball bearing in its tip. As the pen moved along the paper, the ball rotated picking up ink from the ink cartridge and leaving it on the paper. This principle of the ballpoint pen actually dates back to an 1888 patent owned by John J. Loud for a product to mark leather. However, this patent was commercially unexploited. Laszlo Biro first patented his pen in 1938, and applied for a fresh patent in Argentina on June 10, 1943. (Laszlo Biro and his brother Georg Biro emigrated to Argentina in 1940.) The British Government bought the licensing rights to this patent for the war effort. The British Royal Air Force needed a new type of pen, one that would not leak at higher altitudes in fighter planes as the fountain pen did. Their successful performance for the Air Force brought the Biro pens into the limelight. Laszlo Biro had neglected to get a U.S. patent for his pen and so even with the ending of World War II, another battle was just beginning..

If you know?Or have a clue one of these historical pens could be on its way...

No:Wizard i meant an F1 Team.
And if you have all been reading my reports it should be very easy.
Who knows the Wizard might just put in a really posh pen.
But then again,he might become the Scrooge of F1

And it's started to rain on the track, the members have come in and gone back out on wets, will we see a button style win?  Who knows, one thing we do know these members have been driving hard, this could be closest finish of the season so far......

Yeah you are probably right stig, but if I am lucky to complete the top layer of trainig for konica minolta, there is a rumor that the candidate has to goto Japan to finish the course, now if that's true and the timing is open, I can complete my training and time it to coincide with the Japanese GP.  Now that's alot of if's, but something tells me I have more of a chance for that to happen than commentating for the melbourne gp.

romephius-

Best of luck with the trip. You'd be able to say that you were there for the return to Fuji.

Fosters - The official breakfast of F1 fans everywhere! Nothing says "I'm at an F1 race" like shelling out $6 US at 6 am for a can of beer.

Sorry, nothing harder than beer at the USGP. Of course, as soon as I get home, I'm headed for the AMVETS for a Myers's rum and Coke - $2.00  (!.75 during Happy Hour)

5 Days to go till we can all crack a beer or sip a rum (or whatever spirit you drink) in celebration of the first anniversary of a great F1 website and a great group of dedicated fans with interesting topics and personal comments.

Now seems as good-a-time as any to pass on my congratulations to the GPWizard, The Stig, Dare and all the contributing members.

Happy Birthday to us all, without you there wouldn't be a Birthday!

Its you guys that get the presents, here are the long awaited results from the competition:

1st Romephius  :yahoo:
2nd Dare  :yahoo:
3rd Ian  :yahoo:
4th NeilP  :yahoo:
5th Coswoth151  :yahoo:

You ALL qualify for a genuine McLaren carbon fibre pen for outstanding contributions to the site. Let me know what you think of them when they arrive.

Well done to everybody on the site, I wish I could give you all something but obviously this is impossible, give yourselves a large pat on the back for keeping GPWizard alive.

Thanks again all, and remember its you who is making the site what it is today - keep up the good work.  :good:

PS. If you're wondering about the poor old Stig, he got a pen too, but because he is a moderator it would have been unfair to enter him into a 'site activity' related competition.

Youngest first Happy birthday to Iceman (17).
Not so young Phil (55).
Bloody ancient Number 38 (63). He's actually older than me. I didn't think that was possible.

Getting old can be fun. Here's a pic of a recent reunion of old racers we had.

The occasion was a visit from John Pace who emigrated to Massachusetts, USA about 40 years ago. He is now 72.

Anyway to celebrate his visit we all went karting, and I'll tell you what, you may loose alot of things as you get older but you never loose your competitive spirit.

John is first from right. I'm the grey haired one 3rd from left. On my left is kid brother David (57). Next to him Aldo is 74 and still does the odd hill climb with his Lancia Delta integrale.

Hi all, thanks for birthday wishes.

Had a great 24 hours. Last evening rode to the local Karting track with the missus to help coach a couple of promising kids then rode to a restaurant for a bite with friends. Good long ride this morning and the usual couple of beers with the boys, then sat and watched the GP and a 90 minute post mortem, then the Superbikes from Brands.

Just back from a bit of a birthday party and a swim at my sister's house, and now back at my favorite pass time.

No complaints about 61st birthday.
