For me Penske has always been a win at any cost team, so not surprised.

I rate Scott McLaughlin, I liked him when he was in Aussie Supercars championship.

Something about Newgarden rubs me the wrong way. Can't quite put my finger on it. Will Power is the only one I'm familiar with on Team Penske that I like.

I'm not surprised that Penske was cheating. I am surprised that he got the penalties he did since he now owns the IndyCar series. I am sorry to see that Newgarden was involved.

Team Penske had two drivers disqualified from the Season Opening St Petersburg street race. Joseph Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin were disqualified for illegal use of Push to Pass. That system is IndyCar's version of DRS. Like DRS it is supposed to be deactivated during starts and restarts and there is software programmed to do that. It was discovered at the Long Beach GP that the Penske cars had illegal software which allowed it to be used during the start and restarts. Data logs showed Newgarden and McLaughlin had used it but Will Power had not. Power said simply, I know the rules so I wasn't pushing the button. He kept his race result, but was fined 10 points for having the illegal software onboard. Frankly I think it couldn't happen to a more deserving crew. I never liked Penske or most of his people.

General F1 Discussion / 2024 Chinese Grand Prix Heroes and Zeroes
« Last post by Jericoke on April 21, 2024, 04:13:47 PM »
I'm going to keep myself to one each again, but plenty to talk about this weekend between the sprint and the race!

Hero:
I'm going to go with Alpine.  Did they have the best weekend?  No.  Did they have the worst weekend?  No!  A team that started the season almost dead is showing signs of life.  It's a lot of work to gain anything in F1, so good on Alpine for making progress.

Zero:
Lance Stroll.  You've got to expect problems during a restart, the car in front of you might have to react to something you can't see.  If you want to win F1 races, you have to be ready for bad things to happen.

okay, so the storyline I didn't anticipate was the track catching on fire?!

Grass at turn 5 during practice and qualifying caught fire from the sparks off the cars?  Has anyone seen that before?

Painted track - load of nonsense from ill informed hacks who have listened to drivers & teams who like to find faults at tracks to cover their own shortcomings.  ::)

Plenty of roads in Britain have been refurbed with a cold slurry like asphalt surface treatment and I think this is what has been applied to Shanghai track. Main estate road where I live was done with this method 18 months ago and has not shown much if any wear although traffic levels quite high.

Weather seems to have been biggest influencer in Shanghai.  ;)

A painted track? It seems to be a system used in China and the US so maybe it'll be okay although F1 stresses may find a fault?
I quite agree that Williams will be a little bit on the back foot till more spares arrive.
CS options are running out with just Mercedes and Red Bull the only top end options and I cannot see him at either.
Move over DR and let LL in as I'm sure its coming.
