Title: Mick Schumacher in FP1 at Nurburgring
Post by: cosworth151 on September 30, 2020, 03:13:06 PM
Mick Shumacher will drive in FP1 during the Eifel Grand Prix weekend at the Nurburgring. He will be in Antonio Giovinazzi's Alfa Romeo.

There seems to be an amazing pipeline of young drivers ready for F1.

The only problem is the 'old guard' needs to leave to make way! If Mick is ready for F1, I'm guessing Kimi will be moving on, unless Ferrari can assign Mick to Haas.

Rumours are that KR has signed!
So an interesting thought on retirements with KR, LH and DR all getting to that age how long can they continue?

I'm of the opinion that Giovinazzi will make way for Mick so the Kimi question becomes an irrelevance.
Well Antonio has hardly shown much promise in the last 2 years now has he.  ::)

I also predict that another F2 graduate Calum Illott will be in the Haas next term alongside the 'Hulk'.
Again 'wrecker Romain' and 'blocker KMag' clearly seem incapable of advancing from journeyman status after too many years in F1 for the both of them.

Ferrari has a dog this year so why not let Vettel
have a vacation and let Mick finish the year. What
can it hurt

I think at this point his opinions doesn't
matter at Ferrari.

The real question is, would Mick want to start his F1 career in that arthritic snail?  :nono:

Well it's gotta be slightly better than the recalcitrant slug that Alfa set free at each race.  :DD :DD

My understanding is that the champion in F2 is no longer welcome in F2,and that Mick is on track to win that championship.  It would then be natural to progress to F1, taking an open seat.

If he takes an open seat NOW, then someone else wins F2 and either has to find another F1 seat... or somewhere else to race.

Certainly not Mick's, Ferrari's nor even Vettel's problem.

But it does hurt someone.

It is Mick's problem if a different FDA candidate wins. It means Ferrari would have to prioritise that candidate in selecting a F1 seat. If it can in fact secure two seats for its junior drivers, then that's fine - Mick can claim one and the F2 champion the other. However, if there turns out to only be one, then Mick has to do another year of F2.

That may not do Mick any harm... ...but it would be hard to convince him of this.
