Title: Remembering Murray Walker in what would be his 100th year
Post by: John S on October 14, 2023, 02:06:38 PM
An affectionate piece about dear old 'Muddy Talker' with re-collections from Maurice Hamilton the long served F1 journalist.

I found it a fascinating read and hope you do too.  :good:

I can't believe I only listened to Walker call 6 seasons of F1.  I feel like I got to hear him forever.  Every race when I tune in and hear David Croft, I'm still slightly disappointed it's not Murray.  (Don't get me wrong, I feel as though Croft does an admirable job, my only complaint is he's not Murray Walker).

To some people 'Ferrari' is F1, or perhaps you've got your own favourite driver, team or track that sticks out as 'peak F1'.  For me that's Walker.  When I think of F1 racing I think of the excitement he brought.  I felt like I was being joined by a fan who got to gush about the sport he loves.

(He only trails Bob Cole, who called Hockey Night in Canada for 50 years, in my mind as 'great' sports announcers)

He was definitely one of the treasures of F1. Good find, John!  :good:
