Seems next years F1 cars will not look all the same
« on: October 03, 2021, 01:15:06 PM »
I found this vid talking about how teams are likely to interpret the new 2022 rules differently, so at start of new season we may see a big variance in how they look and differing areas they exploit.

However when each concept is revealed and raced there is likely to be more convergence as teams seek to change their designs to copy the more successful ones.

Should be fun seeing just who has got it right come start of next season.

I'm not sure how I feel about that...

On the one hand it would be nice to be able to tell the cars apart from something other than their livery, but on the other, we know what kind of a disaster the season can be when some get it wrong and some get it right.  Michelin/Bridgestone years were brutal.  Hope it doesn't end up something like that.

Between the 'shot in the dark' of getting the new regulations right, and the cost cap preventing a wholesale redesign of the cars, I foresee a 2009 type situation where Brawn came on with a winning design that competitors just couldn't copy fast enough.

Hopefully it's not Mercedes who hits that.

(Would LOVE to see the ink used up with Williams defeating Russell at Mercedes!  Or Bottas outperforming in the Alfa.)
