Title: Goodbye FIF1
Post by: lkjohnson1950 on October 20, 2018, 09:06:48 PM
The team has announced they will change names for 2019.

They've been trying to change it for two years. Maybe this time, with new owners, it will actually happen...

At this point it would be stranger if they kept the name.

It wouldn't be unprecedented, but how much of a connection does the current team have to India?

Previous suggestions for a new name were very uninspiring, so if the name change is to take place, I hope that there are some better options on the table this time.

A young driver (Jehan Daruvala)?

I still think they should go with "Force Pink" ... or "The Pink Panthers" .... but that's all water under the bridge eh?  :DD

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Depends if BWT stick around. They were, after all, sponsoring Force India with a loan up to this point, and it's not clear the team needs a loan any more...

(This will not stop me from sending them a boxful of Pink Panther wafers to fuel their car build!)

If anything I hope they do away with that hideous
pink livery.

Not a Pink Panther fan Dare?

Seriously though, if they added more white and "water blue" ... it may look a lot better with only a hint of pink on the car??

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Since BWT was only providing a loan to the team, I expect them to be replaced with a company willing to pay for a more traditional "give the team money" sponsorship deal.

If nothing else, less scope for bizarre court cases centring around not giving money to a sponsor...

I kind of like the pink.  :D

My good memory of Force India is Fisi winning the
pole at Spa and almost wining the race.

I kind of like the pink.  :D

The pink did the job of making the car visible.

So much better than a field of reds and blues.

In that regard, I found it baffling that Sauber Alfa Romeo chose to go with a white and red car that looked so similar to the Williams livery that had been in use for a few seasons.  Odd decision, hardly made their car stick out.  Apart from the fact their car was mid pack and the Williams miles behind.

I wish Sauber would go back their 2004 livery, one of the best ever

Even Red Bull does a great job of distinguishing RBR from STR, and both cars look great.  For years the STR looked better, but it's become much more plain, still good, but not as exciting.

It must've been hell trying to follow the sport when all the cars were running sponsor free with national colours!

So .... don't get used to saying "Racing Point" quite yet, as it could change once again, before the first green light in 2019.  I think we should stick with "Force WhaaaaatEVVVVVVERRR!!!" until we hear a final, FINAL decision on the team name for next season.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

I hope the team don't wait too long to cement the new team name for 2019?

I'm sure you are all up to speed on this, but here is a brief history of their transitions ...

Jordan Grand Prix
Midland F1
Spyker F1
Force India
Sahara Force India
Racing Point F1
(2019 .... ???)

Best Regards,
Cal :)

They also answer to Team Silverstone and Team Awesome... ...but I have been known to call them "Jordan/Midland/Spyker/Force India/Racing Point/whatever they're called this week".

They also have a sense of humour Alia,  :good:
try calling Red Bull, Stewart GP or Jaguar racing they look daggers at you.  ;)

Well each to his own.  ;)
I often wondered who followed such well funded but unsuccessful teams.  :tease:

For me Paul(sorry)Jackie Stewart's foray into F1 team ownership failure was only eclipsed by Alain Prost's efforts.
Shame as I really rate both of them as drivers.   :(

Stewart's biggest 'mistake' was thinking he could run an F1 team without tobacco sponsorship (in a pre tobacco ad ban era).  If you're going to fail at F1, surely that's the best way to do it?

Getting back to Force India/Racing Point ...

So, are we any closer to learning the name on the new badge above the team's door??

No, still no idea whether we're to call Team Silverstone "Racing Point", "Lance's Squad", "Strollin' Rollin'" or "Ooh Look, We Ran Out Of Characters"...

How was Jackie's foray a failure? After two difficult seasons, he'd got his team to midfield respectability and a victory. He then sold to Ford at a large profit in order to protect the team's engine supply, which in turn was only being threatened because Ford's senior officials looked at their success with Stewart and decided owning a team was the perfect way to capitalise. In the end, the Stewarts only left Jaguar because of a spate of (thankfully all successful) bouts with cancer hit the family.

Sounds grrrreat……..FIA will have to disallow it - the shortened form would have to be STR.   :tease:

I agree with Ali. The team was in good shape when Ford took it over & badged it Jaguar. They threw a ton of money at it with a revolving door management (even including Niki Lauda) The last straw happened at a Ford board meeting. A member of the Ford family asked then CEO Jacques Nasser who the highest paid Ford employee was. Nasser replied that it was him. He was then told that it was Eddie Irvine. Both Nasser and Jag F1 were soon gone.

So, after all the gossip and projected plans, it's now confirmed that Racing Point's new name for 2019, will be ... Racing Point.

https://www.pitpass.com/63842/Racing-Point-to-remain-Racing-Point

Sounds like the Boss doesn't like it, but is stuck with it for the 2019 campaign ... or longer??

I find this particularly amusing since it's the name of the boss's (Lawrence Stroll's that is) old karting team!

So ...

Goodbye FIF1, hello Racing Point, kinda goodbye racing point and hello "SportPesa Racing Point F1 Team"

I think when the opportunity comes along, they should go with "Us F1" .. safer in the long run!  :P
