I would imagine Horner's firing is the summation of many things, not a single element.

Given that Horner was key to RBPT as much as the RBR racing team, that's bigger shoes to fill than just another Team Principle.  Amongst other reasons, if there is a hiccup in the power trains division (and I seem to recall that RBPT was looking for a rule change/clarification for something), that would fall squarely on Horner more than losing a few races or employees.  Even as I type this out, perhaps that is the board battle he lost.

Joe Saward believes Max still has an out since it's the team position that is important in his escape clause, see below:-

"If Mercedes believes that there is a possibility of getting Max, one has to conclude that there is a way it can be done and that will no doubt depend on option clauses that we do not know about. I have been asking around about this for some time and I have concluded that if Red Bull is not third in the Constructors’ Championship by the end of July, Max might be able to leave. If the team is third he is automatically locked in for another year. However, if he does walk away, all hell is going to break loose at Milton Keynes, although in such a scenario, one can imagine that Red Bull would abandon the idea of promoting youngsters – who are not ready – and sign George instead."

"At the moment Red Bull Racing is fourth in the Constructors’ so you can see that there is a window of hope for Mercedes – if the stories I have heard are correct. To be quite honest, Red Bull should not be fourth in the Constructors, but having a second driver who has scored next to nothing means that it is effectively a one-car team."

According to Tyler Rowlinson, on F1oversteer.com, Christian ruled out a re-structure plan for Red Bull Racing during a meeting at the British GP. This could explain his abrupt departure.

Anyone else got any snippets of info or rumour of why now for Horner's sacking to add to the party?

"At the British Grand Prix, Horner refused to entertain a restructuring at Red Bull, which could well have been his downfall. Verstappen had a ‘final standoff’ with Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff, and he was ultimately successful."

General F1 Discussion / Re: Horner Fired from RBR!

The plot to get him has finally succeeded.  ::)

I wonder if the corporates in Austria know how to run an F1 team?  :nono:

This is likely to go the way of Toyota & Ford F1 empires, Dieter knew you can't run an F1 team from a distant board that interferes all the time.

Will there be a big queue for the exit amongst the workforce?

I hope Jos Verstappen, Helmut Marko & Oliver Minztlaff will still be happy with their coup de grâce in a few months when things get even worse for RBR.  ;)

I'm also wondering would this axe still have fallen if Max had won the British GP?  :D

I know it sounds cynical but it if RBR were still on top I think Horner would still be in charge. Morality is one thing, but winning is everything.

Loosing people like Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley didn't help. Max looking for the exit probably sealed Horner's fate.

I wonder if he has any other F1 prospects.

This felt both inevitable and long overdue to me.  The controversies were being swept under the rug instead of being dealt with.  Sports fans, and investors, can usually accept an apology for wrong doing, especially if you've had success.  Continually trying to deny something just isn't going to fly.

Horner ran a great program, but ultimately who you are as a person matters, and I'm glad that Red Bull finally saw it that way.

Pit Pass / How F1 clutches work but won't cut the mustard in your road car.

Like everything else in F1 weight is everything so small is beautiful for clutch assembly.

General F1 Discussion / Re: Was Oscar screwed
« Last post by Jericoke on July 07, 2025, 02:10:06 PM »
I think the both Oscar was screwed, yet the penalty applied to him was appropriate, even if it wasn't within the rules.

The point of the restart isn't to create an advantage for the leader, but for racing to resume safely, with the leader being responsible for the last leg.  Of course, as with every detail of motorracing, it's a system to be gamed, but at some point someone has to decide what is 'safe' and what is 'fair'.

When Hulkenberg mentioned the whole pack being backed up, it does indicate that there was danger in what Piastri did.

The solution should be to formally set expectations.  If everyone agrees that what Piastri did was fair gamesmanship, then the pack needs to expect that to happen.  (In which case Max would have been in the wrong.)

I'm with you on this one Dare.  :o

All I can think is the stewards want this braking after safety car departs to stop, & so made a decision to end the practice once and for all.

Even if it was worth a penalty why so big, 5 secs given for much more egregious fouls.

Looks more like the fix was in,  ;) or was it the stewards had so little to do they took to drink.  :DntKnw:  :D
