General F1 Discussion / Re: Alonso stays at Aston Martin & signs until 26 for F1 team.

Would Aston Martin want two Spanish drivers?

Is Alonso in it for just the money now or does he genuinely believe Aston Martin is ascendant?  Or does he enjoy a guarantee of being better than his teammate?

Is that a rhetorical question Jeri? Seems plausible that all that & more could apply.  :D

Unless of course Sainz gets the second seat.  :DD

R.I.P., Ted. You will be missed.

When we ask about where new drivers are going to find seats, I think of how many future greats started at teams like Tolman, Hesketh, Minardi and the like. F1 was also much more fun with the garagistes in the mix.

Ironically it was winning the Formula 2 championship that gave Toleman the idea and leg up to try his luck in F1.

I say ironically as in last few days we have learnt that the highly successful Prema Formula 2 stalwarts have had to look over the pond to Indy cars to get higher up the motorsport ladder.

Now with liberty closed shop there's almost no chance of F2 teams having a go in F1, even if they've supplied almost all the next generation of drivers to the F1 grid.

Or, maybe Pops will tire of it, sell out to Mario & kin and Andretti will have instant grid access with Alonso as a driver.

Hey, I can dream, can't I?  ;)

Now that's one more piece of the driver market sorted, since Fernando is staying for new era cars one more team off the list for Sainz - or is it?

Anyone think Papa Stroll might replace his own son with another Spaniard?

F1 Teams / Re: Andretti Global Open F1 Shop at Silverstone

They did state that the rules currently do not apply to them they were referencing the budget cap which means they can spend what they like to get up to speed with machinery and design.

I love the strategy:  embarrass F1 into making them accept Andretti

Next step should be running tests at F1 tracks with their car to show they're competitive.

Of course, things get complicated, since they've been accepted by FIA, are there rules they need to follow even though they're not part of Formula One?
