So Haas say they switched focus too early to the 2018 car last season. Way to go for setting expectations - I'd say they need to show a mean 2018 performance given this statement

Quite frankly, I think that McLaren has provided a 'gimme' for any team principle trying to convince sponsors to stick around. "Look maybe we didn't win this year, but if a team like McLaren can struggle, then so can we"

Haas is still in the steep part of the learning curve. If they switched too early it was probably due to inexperience. If they learned something, fine.
