Jeri is the term not "Elbows out" probably nit an American expression either?
"Elbows Up" is like Elbows out, for sure, but it's the ice hockey version. Elbows out are to protect yourself. "Elbows up" means you're done taking crap and ready to hurt someone who's wronged you. In ice hockey they wear elbow pads that function like boxing gloves, you can hit someone with them without hurting yourself.
It's become an unofficial rally cry to tell Canadians we're done taking crap from the USA (government, not people)
Thanks Jeri that's interesting.

By the size of the protests around America many of us are tired of the crap here too

I have the answer but you probably don't need to ask!

Even though the primary goal of f1 isn't 'road relevant technology', surely building a better hybrid system is the most transferrable thing F1 offers to manufacturers?
At the end of the day I appreciate that F1's goal is to provide spectacle to fans, and if that means enforced powertrain parity, I understand. F1 can't be everything to everyone. But we can ask for it!
Engine guys are not bothered about road relevance in the present talks, I think it's more about whether enough power can be generated in a F1 lap from one axle set to power the car & recharge the huge battery. We see already that 2 push laps in a row are not possible in Quali, never mind the tyres not being able to do 2 laps, they need to recharge batteries presently in F1. Now if cars are not in a position to fight in a race for more than a lap at a time with proposed 50/50 energy split we the spectators will be the real losers.

Ah but there's the rub so to speak Jeri, if only one manufacturer can get the battery to perform as you say & others can't we'll be into a period of dominance again for maybe 3 years or more as these PUs will be homologated before season starts with no changes for several years. It'll be another slam dunk championship win each year like when Merc was able to lap most of the field each race after the last big engine upheaval.
The engine limits are a cost savings measure, stopping Ferrari in specific spending a billion dollars to build better engines race over race. Now that cost caps are in place, you don't need cost savings measures. If someone wants to blow their cap on battery R&D why not? It'll be another slam dunk championship win each year like when Merc was able to lap most of the field each race after the last big engine upheaval. I'm not sure it's really a battery thing alone, it's more connected to how much kinetic energy can be recovered by only the rear wheels throughout a lap, no energy is being recovered from front brakes or wheels, F1 is a rear only drive system. my understanding is these new rules require nearly 3 times the amount of kinetic energy to be collected to what we have at present, MGU-H contributes about a third of battery power at present, but crucially that's been binned. The other issue is MGU-H has a reverse function, along with the compressor, namely to spool up the turbo under acceleration to avoid turbo lag without taking power out of battery. In the new set up battery power generated from the MGU-K will need to run up the turbo. They seem to be discussing reducing the reliance on the battery by a third for the whole season, it makes sense to make the change across the board rather than race by race, we have enough trouble with post race checks throwing up anomalies without having to check all software & PUs for misuse of battery power too. WEC/Sportscars cope better because they collect kinetic energy from both axles as 4 wheel drive is allowed, they also have BoP, that's balance of power rules, that can limit or open up certain parameters from time to time on power delivery to try to keep the field as competitive as possible.

That works in both directions. Many of us older pilots still carry our old "whiz wheel" mechanical E6B flight computers in our flight bags. (Yes, we carry the modern electronic ones, too) When someone younger teases us about it, we remind them the even super advanced spacecraft used them to navigate the galaxy.
Matt Jefferies, who was in charge of set & prop design for Star Trek TOS, had been involved in aviation since WW2. The story is he grabbed his whiz wheel out of his car when they needed something for Spock to use on the bridge. It became a standard prop on the series.

I don't think Lando can afford to wait for Canada to put his elbows up (phrase of 2025 for Canadians, look it up). If Piastri continues to finish ahead of Lando, and Max continues to put on pressure, Canada will almost be too late to let McLaren support both drivers.
If Lando wants to be taken seriously, the clash is likely to happen in Imola.
However, if Lando is able to fight back in the 'European Season', then Canada would definitely be the place for the showdown.
I'd love to see the top drivers DNF a little to let other drivers get a sniff at the championship. Having several drivers in contention by the time of Brazil would be great.
