Early in their careers both Ross Brawn and Adrian Newey were employed by Formula One Race Car Engineering (FORCE), what was the team better known as?
-
I know they both worked for March early on, and that March came from the names of the principals, So I'll guess March.

Team Haas (aka Haas Lola)

Another Canadian Content Question:
Who was the first Canadian to win the Canadian Grand Prix?
-
It's got to be Gilles?
-
It's got to be Gilles?
Gilles won the first Canadian GP in Montreal 1978), and was the first Canadian to win the Canadian GP when it was a championship event. However the Canadian Grand Prix hosted Formula 1 cars in non-championship events (1961-66), and was once won by a Canadian before Gilles.

Right you are, David! Your turn for a question.
If you are counting non championship F1 races ERA scored two successes in 1950 the first in June with Bob Gerard piloting an R14B for the win at the British Empire Trophy race, Douglas, Ilse of Man. The second came in August when Cuth Harrison won at the Sheffield Telegraph Trophy, Gamston, Nottinghamshire also in an ERA. A month later in September BRM also came home first at The Goodwood Trophy with Reg parnell at the wheel.
The same man Bob Gerard brought the ERA R14B home in first at the British Empire Trophy in 1948 & 1949, but Formula One did not officially begin until 1950.

Nationality: Italian
Years in F1: 1987-91

Prost and Senna combined to win 10 races from 1984 through 1993, all in McLarens, except for Senna's '87 win.

1952, Bathurst, Doug Whiteford???

Yup well done David. :good: It was a bit obscure I agree, I thought some of our Aussie members might put their tinnies down and set us straight. :D
The AGP was run to F1 rules once in 52, then went to Formula Libre in 53, Formula Tasman in the 60's and Formula 5000 in the 70's. There was then one year, 1980, again as an F1 spec race, in honour of Alan Jones WDC, before becoming Formula Pacific until 1985 when the first official championship F1 race took place, as LoNeR4eVa correctly identified.
Over to you David.

Believe it or not, a driver named Roldán almost won the 2005 Turkish GP. What happened?

-
Aw c'mon people...I have a heck of a time figuring out all your historical questions and I throw a tidbit of trivia and nobody has a clue? :DntKnw: :DntKnw:
-
In answer to your first question Roldán is part of the family name of Juan Pablo Montoya and he lost 2nd place in the Turkish GP in 2005 because he had a coming together with a back marker in the penultimate lap and then had another off all by himself allowing Alonso to get by, Montoya kept 3rd though. Kimi in the other McLaren won the race.

This feat bettered John's brilliant run through the field the year before in the Detroit US GP when he charged from 17th on the grid to win.

I only said that because we used to call him Andrea de Crasheris. :DD

You've got it, Scott! :good:

Oops, here I was checking out who's turn it was, only to find out it is MINE!
Although the first official F1 race was held in 1950 at Silverstone, when did F1 technically begin?

A two part question about the 1967 South African GP.
1, Privateer John Love was leading towards the end of the race but only managed to finish second, what happenned to prevent him winning?
2, What is the significence of the Win for Cooper cars?
-
1/ John Love had to pit for fuel
2/ It was Cooper's last ever win
-
Spot on David, your go.
-
Who holds the record for most Grand Chelem (Leading the entire race from pole and scoring the fastest lap) in their career, and how many?

What was the closet GP finish in history? Who were the top 5 and how much time covered them?
Lonny

Peter Gethin first followed by Ronnie Peterson, Francois Cevert, Mike Hailwood and Howden Ganley within 0.61s

Oh for close racing like that now. :good:
-
WOW! Great video Dare. You got it every way possible. Notice, Monza with no stupid chicanes, and crude aerodynamics means fantastic slip streaming. Those were the days. :good: :yahoo:
Lonny
-
Hey Ian, did you check out the Parabolica? It's still the same turn...and your seat is right there...it's an amazing curve.
-
Sure did Scott, can't flaming wait. :good:

Wait, you're going to Monza? :swoon:
Lonny

Sure am Lonny, and I'm meeting Scott out there. :good: :yahoo:

Who was the only driver in the history of F1 race who led only the last lap of the race and won the entire race
Driver,year,and where
Peter Gethin, 1971, Monza at the Italian GP featured in your video. ;)
-
thats not the answer I was looking for
John.My source may be wrong though
-
I think Gethin had the lead in a earlier
lap John,we'll wait a few days and then
I'llpost what I think is the right answer
-

According to his profile on ESPN F1 Gethin only won that one F1 race and only took the lead on the last lap.
The diminutive Peter Gethin provides a good quiz question in that while he won one grand prix in his 30-race career, he never actually led a race for an entire lap. His success in Italy in 1971 was remarkable; he stormed through from fourth going into the final lap to win by a wheel, recording the fastest average speed in F1 history (a record broken by Michael Schumacher 32 years later). It was his only podium finish.
Maybe there are two drivers who can claim this same feat. ;)
-
After thinking about this some more Dare are you referring to the crazy Monaco Gp of 1982, Patrese was the winner and only finisher on the lead lap as everyone in front of him either ran out of fuel or crashed? Patrese inherited the lead somewhere in the penultimate lap 75 and went on to complete the last lap, 76, completely unapposed for the win, 2nd and 3rd went to Pironi & De Cesaris who both stopped on track on lap 75.
I still think Peter Gethin fits the criteria of your question. :P
-
I was thinking of Fisichella at Brazil in 03,I think
was the year.Maybe there's more who accomplished this feat
-
John here's the way it was worded in the site
I found "Italian driver Giancarlo Fisichella was the only driver in the history of F1 race who won only the last lap of the race and won the entire race in 2003."
Maybe it meant the year 2003?Anyway your answer is
fine with me,your turn

The 03 Brazil race was red flagged with 15 laps remaining because of the weather, Kimi was given the win on the day and Fischi was awarded the win a week later after a court case, another crazy race like the 82 Monaco race.

Right next question:-
Our Bernie tried his hand at driving in F1 in the dim and distant past, name year, races entered and results of Mr Eccelstone's efforts?
-
Was it 1958?
The Monaco Grand Prix and failed to qualify?
-
That's most of the answer aazz, Bernie also entered the British GP as well in 1958 but again as he was not up to speed & never took the start, Jack Fairman stepped into the car instead on race day.
It's astonishing with his driving record that Bernie usually doesn't appear in Formula One rejects lists, I guess his fat wallet scares off attention. ;)
Your go with a question aazz.
-

Maybe Bernie couldn't reach the pedals.
-
There was something unique (and also a first) about the podium for the 1970 South African Grand Prix. What was this something?
-
Two Aussies on the podium??
-
it was Black Jack's last F1 win
-
G'day David and Dare, those are not the answears I am after.
-
you may have us stumped aazz, all I can think of are
all 3 podium cars were powered by Ford for the first time
-
I'm dyin' to know this answer too. As usual, I had to cheat (which is why I'm never answering any of these tough questions!) and even then I still can't figure it out. Maybe all 3 flags of the top 3 drivers countries had the "UK" flag in them?
-
All three drivers were actually smiling? :D
I'm intimidated by most of these questions too...not because I can't mine the Internet for the answers, but more because if I answer correctly, then I need to come up with another question that half you guys can't answer off the top of your head.
-
A little hint. The answear can be found in the August 2010 edition of F1 Racing. I am making the assumption the Australian edition is the same as in other countries.

What?! You guys can afford to buy magazines these days? :'( And good luck trying to find an F1 magazine in the relative sticks of Canada! heh
cheers
-
I can get them in some book stores up in Columbus, the state capital. However, they are always a month behind. Right now, they still have the July issue on the shelf.
-
Another hint. The podium in Canada this year was the same and only the 12th time it has occured.
-
Three world champions on the podium
-
That's it Ian, well done :good:
Your turn.
