Title: Ferrari Fest in Melbourne
Post by: Wizzo on February 06, 2007, 02:42:15 PM

A Ferrari festival will be staged ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, next month's opening Formula 1 season race, the local press reported.

The 2007 Grand Prix Ferrari Festival is part of a series of 60 events the famed Italian sports car company is organising worldwide to mark its 60th anniversary.

The festival will be staged March 3, two weeks before the Grand Prix, and see a cavalcade of 60 different Ferrari models drive through the city's Italian district.

This will be followed by a demonstration by a Ferrari Formula 1 car on a circuit especially created around the central Lygon Street. The festival is being organised by Ferrari, the city of Melbourne and the company which organises the Australian Grand Prix here.

It was presented to the public and press on Tuesday by State Tourism Minister Tim Holding who said "there is something exciting and special about Formula 1 racing".

"This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see all things Ferrari in one place at one time," observed Ferrari's general manager in Australia, Kevin Wall.

Also on hand at the presentation was the city's acting lord mayor, Gary Singer, who said "the Grand Prix Ferrari Festival will make this year's Grand Prix even bigger. The festival will provide a great opportunity to get close to the amazing F1 machines and experience a unique taste of the Grand Prix," he added.

The festival will also include Formula 1 simulators, a display of Ferrari racing and street cars, a number of exhibitions, music concerts and activities for children.

Among the items on display will be one of the special Ferrari batons which were created for the ongoing global Ferrari 'relay race', which will span five continents and some 50 countries before ending up at Ferrari's headquarters in Maranello on June 24, after 148 days.

The batons are embossed with symbols of the 60 greatest moments in Ferrari's history, from its first success at the Rome Grand Prix of 1947 to the 2006 Ferrari FXX prototype car.
