Alonso's second pole in a row, 11th of his career and first in Spain has left him perfectly placed to become the first Spaniard to win his home race. He has attracted a huge following in Spain, with a sold-out 130 000 crowd expected on Sunday.
Schumacher in third with Massa alongside, Sunday's race will be a battle between the new champions and the old, with Schumacher lurking on the clean side of the track. :good:

Alonso had a fantastic drive on on Sunday to become the first Spaniard to win his home Formula 1 GP on an unforgettable afternoon.
The 24-year-old world champion warmed up the 130 000 crowd, the biggest yet at the Circuit de Catalunya, by giving King Juan Carlos a ride around the Barcelona track in a road car before the race.
A few hours later he took the chequered flag to drive that same crowd into a frenzy, his king joining him on the podium to present his happy subject with the winner's trophy as the national anthem played. It was one of the greatest moments in a career that has seen a few firsts already.
It was, the Austrian declared proudly, one of the greatest moments in a career that has seen a few firsts already.
In the race, there was only one king of the road and that was Alonso. :yahoo:

Well wizard, must agree with you, as you know I'm a Schumey fan, but I've just watched the race and Alonso, well, what can you say, to put those amount of laps within a couple of 100ths of a second of each other, whooaa, he was superb, certainly driver of the day, the man was magnificent, a true champion. I'm sorry to say I've got to give him a BIG :yahoo: well done Alonso
