AIKEN, SC (WIS) - Police say a 10-year-old trick-or-treater pulled out a 9-mm handgun when woman joked that she was going to steal his candy on Halloween.

According to Aiken Public Safety officials, a 28-year-old woman told authorities that she recognized some youngsters in a group of about a dozen kids Monday evening and she joked she'd take their candy.

A 10-year-old in the group said "no, you're not [expletive]" and pointed the Intra Tech 9-mm handgun at her, according to an incident report.

Aiken Public Safety Lt. David Turno said the gun wasn't loaded, but the boy did have a clip of ammunition with him. The boy's 10-year-old brother also told the woman that he had a gun, but did not show it to her, the report stated.

Both weapons were recovered by police and the boys were arrested, taken to the police station and eventually turned over to their parents.

Police said the boys got the weapons from their grandfather without his permission.

Turno reminds parents to be mindful of the weapons that they have in their homes so that something this doesn't happen again.
