Title: Damaged 'cake tins' caused heavy tyre deg for Williams F1 Spa GP
Post by: John S on August 14, 2023, 01:06:59 PM
No it wasn't the mechanics chucking there lunch boxes about but rather some sort of mishaps at pit stops that broke 'cake tin' diffuser thingammys on Williams cars wheel assemblies at Spa race forcing 3 stops.  :swoon:

Now call me old fashioned but I reckon there must be a design flaw or production problem if even a heavy handed wheel man can damage a very necessary part of the wheel assembly at routine pit stop, on not one but both cars!

Bet there's more than a bit of foul language involved in the factory debrief over this problem.  :D

It makes me wonder if they used a new design for Spa. It would be strange to have a part work for half a season then suddenly have failures on both cars right before the summer break. Maybe a manufacturing flaw of some kind.

Would be interesting to know if this is a part that is reused or if they are replaced every race.
