Title: Danny Ric's move will put him near top of F1 driver salaries
Post by: John S on August 05, 2018, 12:28:08 PM
I've heard other reports of £20m a year mentioned but it's now suggested the deal is $35m (about £27m).
For Renault it's so big it had to get top executive approval.

He'll probably get paid more than Nando.  ;)

Wages like that can turn a fella's head.  :swoon:
I'm sure that'll be a real comfort if he never wins a WDC.  :D

Good.  It’s what he’s worth...maybe more.

He's one of the best now so yeah, he should be getting close to the best paid drivers.  For his sake I hope it's not the Alonso curse part 2 though!

We know the Renault is a decent power unit, the only question is if Renault can bring something more to the car.

We also know the Honda is still fragile, and RBR are known for engineering to the ragged edge, so can they deliver as fast a car while still preserving the Honda engine?

I would say it’s a 50/50 gamble, so if the only difference was $25m more in Daniel’s pocket, I would think it would be an easy decision.

I think the $25m is the key here.  Danny had a look around and realised next season there are only going to be two teams with a chance of winning a race: Mercedes and Ferrari.

Red Bull will struggle with Honda (Torro Rosso haven't exactly improved), McLaren are rubbish with the Renault as we all the Honda, Force India are bankrupt, Sauber will always be near the bottom of the pack (unless outdone by Williams  :( ). That leaves Haas or Renault. Better choose a works team I guess...

I wonder if he had a chat with Ferrari, but I guess he would rather receive $25m into his pension pot, than play second fiddle to Vettel.

Not much of a choice really in the end...

RBR & Honda is the smart move with the information they have from TR and Honda's commitment its going to be a winning combination. Honda have come a long way from it McLaren days which I feel was not the best option for Honda and McLaren are hardly setting the time sheets alight.
Is DR worth the money? Comparing him to Seb and Lewis is not right as they were both world champions when jumping ship and history for Lewis shows it was the right move and like both of the it'll only be time that tells if its the right move and pay for him.
