Title: FCA (Fiat/Chrysler) and Renault to Merge?

FCA (the parent company of Fiat (therefore Alpha Romeo), Chrysler and several other car brands), has proposed a merger with Renault.

Obviously there are tremendous business implications here (apparently Nissan, part of the 'Renault Alliance' isn't part of the deal?), but we're mostly concerned with how it will affect F1!

Ferrari is a separate company from Fiat, however because of the way Ferrari was spun off from Fiat means a lot of VIPs at Fiat are still VIPs at Ferrari.  From an F1 point of view that would mean the same VIPs at Renault, Alpha Romeo and Ferrari.  At a technology level, those VIPs are going to wonder how many F1 programmes they need to pay for.  At a political level, it's going to be a pretty solid voting bloc of teams with aligned interests.

Here in the States, the words "Renault Alliance" still sends shivers down the spines of car lovers. It was the worst automotive thing imaginable: A Renault built by Rambler in the early 1980's.

It was badged Renault 9 or 11 over here Cos and it was no better I can assure you.

Mind you a lot of cars in the late 70s and early 80s were pretty p*ss poor.  :D

However The AMC Alliance total build was 2 & half times more than the AMC Pacer so someone must have liked it Cos.  ;)

My barber had the 15, a slightly sportier version, and he loved it. He moved away before I found out how it held up.
