Pit Pass / Double pitlane?
« Last post by Jericoke on August 16, 2026, 04:16:56 PM »
I'm watching coverage of the Indy Race in Markham Ontario (replaces the Toronto Indy, closer to home actually!).  They have a 'double pitlane'.  Pitlane has pit boxes on both sides, two fast lanes divided by a barrier.  Even though IndyCar is a 'team' sport, each car has their own pit box,so a 22 car field needs 22 pits, which means they need a much longer pit lane than F1 does.  Having double pit lanes means the lane itself is much shorter, and there are fewer opportunities for collisions if you're only dealing with half as many cars pulling in/out on your side of the pit lane.

I know that some fantastic tracks can't meet F1 certification because the pit lanes are too small.  Maybe this would be a solution?

A bit off topic, but what a symphony exhaust on the Le Mans winning Mazda 787B. Sound in upper left.

Add into that, it being possible for the track to be totally dry at one end and flooded at the other.

Yep. If you're not sure what the car is going to do, you become more cautious.

With the high pressure tires, spooky AI actions and all, maybe the drivers are too centered on just trying to get the car around the track to push the limits.

The Lotus 49 - Cosworth DFV is my all time favorite F1 car.

I couldn't help but be distracted by the circuit. The old 8.8 mile Spa circuit. Trees, utility poles, buildings, drop offs, all right beside the track with hardly a guardrail to be seen. Hard to imagine racing on a circuit like that.

From reading various articles I can only find 2 drivers, Antonelli & Colapinto, with penalty points lasting until 27, meaning they aquired them this year.
Not only is this a small total but they each have only 1 point hanging over til 27.

Have the Stewards really gone soft,  or perhaps an explanation is racing's not as hard or fully commited as in previous terms?
Do drivers now fear Stewards wrath with so many unpredictable penalty decisions in past seasons?  :DntKnw:

Another reason may be the blasted cars this year with the real masters being team set Ai and not necessarily the pilots.  >:(

Strange though, IMHO, with various winners of GPs and seemingly a good fight between teams that drivers seem to have lost killer/agressive/go for gap streak of past seasons, is that a good or bad thing?  :DntKnw:

What does anyone else think?

Here's another from a couple years later. Notice how much the car moves around. Sound on upper left corner.

That's the F1 I fell in love with.

Yet another issue drivers are repeatedly complaining about this season, high mandated tyre pressures, cannot be reset for this season as too many teams put individual doubts ahead of big picture for improved racing.  :(

The Race.com explains below why safety measure limits Pirelli's ability to drop pressures.
