I agree, it is a bit of a cop out, however most other exclusions are for athletes competing FOR Russia.  With F1 you're just competing for your team.  Banning Mazepin would be like banning any Russian players in the Premier League (I'm not following that.. .are there any and are they banned?)

It would also mean that ANY Russian engineers/technicians would need to be banned from F1.

I don't have a problem with that level of ban at all.

Also, I wouldn't want to see Mazepin banned because of the crimes of his father (not that I'm suggesting Dmitry is doing anything 'wrong'  It's easy to assume a Russian Oligarch is some sort of gangster, but I don't know).  A few other drivers on the grid have less than stellar parents in the eyes of the law, and we don't take it out on them either.

Further developments.......Mazepin won't be allowed to race in GB....and the inference is that Haas will be severing links with him anyway. Maybe the FIA suspected this in announcing their decision.

It's the same thing the Olympics did for Russian athletes after they banned the Russian team for steroid use. As for Dmitry, I've read that he is a confidant of Putin.

I don't think that individual Russian citizens should be penalized for the actions of their government. Under the system over there, they have far less say in their government than citizens of democracies.
