Ecclestone considering three new F1 races
« on: April 03, 2007, 03:05:43 PM »
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone said on Tuesday that the number of grand prix on the calendar could be increased by three to 20 a season.

"We could easily imagine that the number of grand prix in a season could be 20. That could be Mexico, India and Russia. South Korea is another candidate," said Ecclestone.

Ecclestone also raised the possibility of organising a new race on an urban circuit, as well as a night race.

"That (night race) would be ideal for Asia, since it would be the right time difference to be broadcast in Europe. It would also be very spectacular, it all depends of course on the circuit."

Concerning the reticence of team bosses over the creation of more races, he said: "The more we hold races in good countries, the easier it will be for them to find sponsors."

And amid the threat to the France Grand Prix at Magny-Cours in 2008, Ecclestone warned that no country had a monopoly on the sport.

"Formula One is very international, it's a world championship, not a championship linked to certain countries. When the the standards are not respected we have to go elsewhere," he added.

Plleeeaassse, Bernie - You go eslewhere! :P

In the immortal lyrics of Steppenwolf:

Just as soon as you are gone
Hope will start to climb
Please don't stay around too long
You're waisting precious time!
“You can search the world over for the finer things, but you won't find a match for the American road and the creatures that live on it.”

He will never quit! He loves his work too much.

Mind you if I had a wife that was 2ft taller than me, I wouldn't want to go home either!  :DD

Does'nt he just make you sick, every time Ecclestone opens his mouth he makes it clear that he does'nt give a toss about the f1 fans who might just love a lot of the traditional circuits, yes, the newer technical circuits might be great but have'nt all f1 fans got their own personal favourite corner or section of track and that b*st*rd is trying to get rid of them all.

From where cosworth is sitting i bet he wishes he had a table cloth on his head.I know what you are saying, but these are the people with the money.Let us all not forget that point. They are willing to build brand new cicuits when we can only patch up what we have...You do not have to go on mastermind to find the best deal.
