Kiss to rock F1 Australian Grand Prix
« on: November 14, 2007, 06:59:02 PM »

Ageing rockers Kiss will headline the entertainment at the Australian Grand Prix in March, organisers confirmed Wednesday as they attempt to claw back losses from staging the event.

The band will be in Australia specifically for the event and will perform a full concert at the conclusion of the Formula One race, a spokesman said.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is promoting the gig in Melbourne as it attempts to end years of losses due to dwindling ticket sales and sponsorship revenue.

The city is contracted to stage the race until 2010 but the Australian GP has been losing money since moving from Adelaide in 1996.

This year the Victorian state government was forced to meet a 34.6 million dollar (30.8 million US) shortfall for staging the event.

Organisers said the concert was one of several new initiatives for 2008.

Kiss, famous for their painted faces and outrageous outfits, have sold millions of albums since hits such as "I Was Made For Lovin' You, Baby" and "Rock and Roll All Nite" came out in the 1970s.

Singer and guitarist Paul Stanley said in a statement: "Let me see -- high-octane, roaring horsepower testing the threshold of sound and speed. And then the Formula One Grand Prix. We'll be firing on all cylinders and the audience will need their seatbelts."

"No Matter how little money and how few possessions, you own, having a dog makes you rich."

Claw_Grrrl's favorite band.

I wonder how much they will have to spend to make the site big enough to hold Gene Simmons' ego? :D
