Title: Does Alonso want 4 crowns, F1, WEC, Indycar & Formula E?
Post by: John S on September 14, 2018, 01:27:46 PM
We probably all now think Nando wants 3 world championships as well, or instead, of equalling Graham Hill's triple crown.
But could he be aiming higher by adding Formula E to make his target 4 World championships?
Well the all electric series seems keen to woo him.

Formula E needs something to get themselves into the public consciousness.  So far the best they can do are washed up F1 drivers; a two time WDC would certainly help.

They need to attract a driver who is at the top of their game though.  Ricciardo or Kimi would have been good targets for Formula E (of course, Hamilton and Vettel would be better).

Speaking of Alonso ..... (closest "current" topic I could locate in this section).

.. so that would be a No! Flavvy, as I could only see a #2 seat becoming available and that surely wouldn't perk Fernando's interest in a potential return to the sport.  I can only see him return if a championship winning team/car becomes available and with the options available and young talent coming through, it's extremely unlikely.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Alonso isn't totally washed up yet. He'd have to work his way down through NASCAR and a couple of years as color commentator on F1 broadcasts before he gets to Formula E.

When the World Hockey Association first formed, they were trying to gain 'credibility' against the established National Hockey League.  Mostly they hired kids too young for the NHL (including Wayne Gretzky), or washed up NHL players (Gordie Howe).  Everyone realized they were just taking the leftovers, so the WHA pooled their resources and all the teams combined to pay one player a million dollars.  They chose Bobby Hull from the Chicago Black Hawks, and he became the first million dollar hockey player, and the 'face' of the World Hockey Association.

If Formula E wants to be seen as a top series (that's a big if, I get the feeling they're happy where they are), then giving Alonso anything he wants would be a nice thought, instead of waiting until he is washed up.
