Afraid my computer has died, had a recommended guy come out and was told because of it's age and what wanted doing it would almost be the cost of a new computer, he also said if I still wanted it done to go elsewhere as he would feel he was ripping me off, can't beat honesty can you. I'll be popping in now and use the libraries computers, see y'all later.

I just replaced a company laptop Monday. Picked up a nice factory refurb Dell w/ 4 gig of RAM & a CD/DVD drive running on Win 7 Pro for $179. Every unit I've gotten for the company for years have been FR units from Microcenter and I've never had any problems.

Refurb is the way to go. Costs less, and it's been double checked

Sorry to hear your trouble Ian, still it's nice weather to pop out to the library. ;)
I'm guessing like me you prefer a desktop rather than the midget keys on a laptop. I got my last one, well this one I'm using now, a couple of years ago at Staples, I found them to be the cheapest and easiest to deal with. They don't push hard on extended warranties and try and upsell, you'll probably only need the actual box as your old screen will still work fine.
You can currently get an HP desktop from £229 at Staples, don't buy the recommended McAfee protection as you can pick up a year's McAfee Total protection, as a code to input on McAfee site, from sellers on Ebay for under £20. I know it works out fine as McAfee wanted £49 to renew my subscription for the year a couple of weeks ago but I bought a code online for £14.50 - worked fine and I'm back protected for Another year.
Whatever you do good luck buddy.

In human years, that makes your computer about 300 years old.
'bout time, I'd say.

Mine is 10 or so. Still functions but gets cranky about it on a regular basis.
