Title: Williams Team Principal Tests Positive
Post by: cosworth151 on November 12, 2020, 02:54:17 PM
Williams F1 team principal Simon Roberts will miss this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul after testing positive for the virus. Dave Redding, Team Manager, and Chief Engineer of Vehicle Design, Adam Carter, will assume his responsibilities on the ground in Turkey.

With the drivers and constructors titles already
settled I wouldn't be surprised if the remainder of
the season is cancelled.

Have they reached the minimum number necessary to satisfy TV contracts?

Isn't the remaining season 'fly away' races? While that makes it easier to justify cancelling (really shouldn't be jetsetting in a pandemic), it also means that the equipment has already been shipped, so there's a sunk cost.  Not really a big deal for Ferrari or Red Bull, but smaller teams, or teams that answer to boards of directors might not like seeing their money thrown away.

Hopefully you're right, and everyone is happy to write off those costs in the interests of safety.

Dare only seems like Drivers title settled, Lewis could wrap it up this race but could just as easily DNF.

Sure he would be champ if they cancelled Turkey - even at this late stage - and the rest, but that's unlikely IMHO.

Anyway what else is there to keep us entertained in these miserable times, bring on the rest is what I say.   :P

As wild as this weekend has been so far, anything could happen in the race. (Being Friday the 13th weekend in 2020, I'll be working during the race  :'(  )

I'm sure that Bahrain & Abu Dhabi are both sending truckloads (or should I say tankers full) of cash to Liberty. I can't imagine Liberty turning it away.

One old-guy note about the length of the season: In the early 1960's, the NASCAR Grand National (now Cup) Series regularly ran 55 or more races a season. Some were run on Wednesdays.  :swoon:

Yeah, I don't feel sorry for the teams, maybe they need to streamline their operations a bit. The sky guys on Sky were saying it could go to 25 races. Suppose Liberty says OK we'll cut the number of races if you take less money. Do you think thye teams would go for fewer races or less money?

Baseball plays 162 games and goes from April
to November in a non Covid season. While F1 now
runs from March to December. Little too long in my
book. Titled When's Enough Enough

Not until next race (the first Bahrain).
