According to legend, Krampus accompanies St. Nicholas during the Christmas season, warning and punishing bad children, in contrast to St. Nicholas, who gives gifts to good children.

In Switzerland they are called Schmutzli's, and come with St. Niklaus on December 6th. They are little black people with branches to beat the children when they are bad. They are still part of the Christmas blackmail arsenal here in Switzerland today. Not terribly politically or parentally correct, now are we :fool: :fool:
