The Lawrence Welk Show was on forever. Re-runs are still on decades after his death. He and his orchestra were famous for bland, overly wholesome music and acres of pastel polyester.

I don't think he knew what this song was about. At the end, he describes is as a "spiritual."  :crazy:

Good ol' Mr. Welk. He knew. Just look at his eyes at the beginning of the clip. Plus he had cotton mouth he was so dry.

I think it was the majority of his audience didn't know what the song was about.
