Title: Changes at Indy
Post by: cosworth151 on February 26, 2007, 05:08:23 PM
There are rumors flying around changes to the road couse at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the course used by the USGP. There has been talk for several years that Tony George is trying to get a MotoGP event. This would require doing away with Turn 13, which is Turn 1 on the oval. This is the banked turn that caused the problems with the Michelins back in 05. It's the one that Ralf Schumaker tagged hard in 04 nad 05. There is no way that bikes could run that close to a concrete wall. The rumor going around now is that the proposed changes have already been filed with the FIM.

The problem is that there is an underpass with 4 traffic and 2 walking lanes under the track. The Museum would also be in the way. Hopefully, it will add a little elevation change to the track. Right now, it's flat as a pancake. (But then, so is most of Indiana)

On the subject of Indy, their website has a cool way to show just how big the track is:
