Title: Valencia F1 circuit now a migrant shanty town.
Post by: John S on August 11, 2021, 10:41:48 AM
Abandoned since 2012 the race track, which should have formed roadways for a mega urban development, has stood mainly empty.
With all the lost monies and legal wrangling will proper buildings replace the now shanty town before the track totally crumbles?

I'm also wondering which other vanity project tracks around the world are in similar dire straights?  :DntKnw:

by Darrel Earnhardt about the forgotten NASCAR tracks

There's a YouTuber 'Slapshoes' who mostly talks about NASCAR, and has done videos about truly abandoned tracks.  There's one (I don't remember/not looking it up) where it's entirely overgrown by forest, but he can identify the straight and pits by how the pollution affects growth.

There's another track that is only mentioned in one newspaper race summary, with no other evidence it existed.

Good one, Lonnie! For those of you interested, there are some great shots of the original Spa in the movie Grand Prix.

The old Spa was famous (infamous?) for having sudden cloudbursts on one part of the track while the rest was dry. That happened during the filming. Director John Frankenheimer needed a link to tie the dry & wet scenes. He held a stopwatch in his hand, had the cameraman come in tight on it, and dripped water in the watch with his other hand. Then he dubbed in some thunder in the soundtrack.
