Title: This is why Oscar Piasti 21 F2 champ deserves F1 seat sooner rather than later
Post by: John S on December 28, 2021, 01:45:54 AM
He smashed the F2 title in one year not the mapped out 2. With feeder series titles in the preceding 2 years as well, - now that's class.  8)

So he can honestly make the challenge 'Go on Gis a job' to all the F1 team principals.  :D

There are always more good drivers than good cars available. Of course pay drivers make it worse, but it's been going on almost since F1 started.

What seems silly to me is the each team must enter 2 cars and only 2 cars rule. Never bothered anyone in the past. Both Ferrari and Mercedes have entered as many as 4 or 5 cars. And Rob Walker was a respected and welcome member of F1, buying a car from Cooper or Lotus and entering as a single car team. Williams started out as a one car team. Why not open it up a bit?

Too expensive. A one-car team could only get half the revenue, and would have about 85% of the costs. When a 2-car team costs $145 m, that's not really viable.

Three-car teams are banned through a combination of excessive advantage if car 3 can get points, risk of gamesmanship if it can't, and the fact it costs $25 m to put a third car in the championship for one team (which most teams currently couldn't afford to do even if allowed and the remainder couldn't convince their owners to fund unless it was a "tied driver" who really couldn't get to F1 any other way).

Oscar patently should be in F1, but the solution is to expand the prize funds so teams 11, 12 and 13 can join the party.
