Title: Hamilton has title in his sights
Post by: Wizzo on October 20, 2007, 09:10:19 PM
Lewis Hamilton today put himself in the perfect position to wrap up the Formula One world title at the Brazilian Grand Prix tomorrow.

He will start in second place behind Felipe Massa, who grabbed pole position for his home Grand Prix.

Massa will lead away the field for the ninth time in his career, while alongside him on the front row of the grid will be the 22-year-old Hamilton, who is trying to be first rookie, and the youngest driver to win the world championship.

He will have title rivals Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso directly behind him, just as he would wish.

For Hamilton, starting second on the grid is as good as being in pole position, with only Massa ahead of him.

A smiling Hamilton said: “It was very close.

“I really enjoyed the qualifying session. The car was good to drive, and I produced a good lap – losing a little bit of time in the last corner.

“But apart from that, I’m very happy. It’s a good place to start.”

He added: “I’m just buzzing. I’m really excited. I feel very relaxed, the car is great and I love the circuit.

“There are quite a lot of British flags out there, so I’m glad I have a lot of support.”

Yes, lewis should wrap it up and good on him if he does.

On that subject, as you may know, the U.K. "PITPASS. com" website runs a poll for each GP asking their readers to indicate who they think will win and for the last two/three seasons invariably KR has got the most votes each time.

Well for this race the poll question is slightly changed to "who will win the WDC" and yes kimi gets the nod again - even preferred to lewis.

Now kimi RAIKKONEN is a prodigious driving talent but as a Kiwi NZ'er living in Aussie I find this predeliction for KR, mind-boggling and quite bizarre so in this spirit I shall wish MW who qualified a fantastic 5th on the grid:

"All the best mate. Well done and show them how well a 'fair dinkum Aussie' can go."

The first corner may be extremely "interesting".
