Title: Carver One
Post by: Wizzo on August 11, 2006, 08:44:17 PM

Designed by airplane engineers, it’s no wonder this bonkers motor looks like the most outlandish car of the year.

Like a motorbike, the central cockpit on the Carver One automatically tilts up to 45 degrees left or right as you drive round corners. Why? Why, for the sheer unadulerated fun of it, of course.

There is, mind, a practical pay-off too, as the One is technically classified as a motorbike for tax purposes, meaning you’ll pay roughly £62 in the UK to get it on the road: far cheaper than the road tax for a car. And worry not, you can drive the thing with a standard UK driver’s license.

Despite the exotic design, it’s a nippy little bugger, with a 660cc engine powering it from 0-60 in 8 seconds. Top speed is 115mph, so it should be fine on motorways, unlike the Sinclair C5 it keeps reminding us of. Surprisingly, it even has some green credentials thanks to a fairly respectable 45MPG - we wait with anticipation the hybrid or fully electric version.

The body’s made out of glass fibre, the hard roof is removable for summer posing and there’s a selection of 16 different colours including garish orange, safe black and racing green. On sale now with prices starting at £20,250.

This is, clearly, the car for everyone who always wanted a bike, but was too scared to get one.  :D
