Title: Dr. Seuss's Birthday
Post by: cosworth151 on March 02, 2009, 03:16:04 PM
Today, March 2nd, 2009, is the 105th anniversary of the birth of Ted Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.

While most commonly known for his children's books (he wrote over 60 of them), “Dr.” Seuss was both the editor-in-chief of the college newspaper and also drew more than 400 political cartoons in two years for a New York daily newspaper.

In his honor, it is now the annual Read Across America Day, to encourage children to read.

His home town of Springfield, Mass. has a public park full of lifesize statues of his characters. Seuss sits at his desk in the middle of it all. Children are free to play and climb over an around them. It's a wonderful place.
