Title: 'Athlete of the Decade' Tiger Woods
Post by: Jericoke on December 16, 2009, 05:25:23 PM
This is according to the Associated Press, an American news company.

Even though Tiger has had his problems recently, it's not a surprising decision.

What did surprise me though was that among other athletes considered, Michael Schumacher isn't one of them.  He won 5 championships in the 2000s.  He was so dominant that they actually changed the rules to prevent him from running away with the championship too early in the season.  I'm not saying he should have gottn the award ahead of Tiger, but if Usain Bolt can be mentioned, I think Schumacher should be in there too.

Michael's retiring may have had a lot to do with this and
if this is a American based award no wonder he wasn't mentioned

It seems that the voters in most of these "Whatever of the Decade" polls, be it Athlete, News Story, Song or whatever, have very short memories. Their picks always seem to favor people or things that peaked in the last year or two.

Dare's right, even Bolt is far better know here in the States than Schumi.
