Actor Fess Parker Dies
« on: March 19, 2010, 01:25:47 PM »
I know Dare will remember him.

Actor fess Parker has died at the age of 85. In the 1950's, he starred on TV as historical figure Davy Crockett. It was a huge hit, and started one of the first TV marketing fads. Kids all over the country were wearing Davy Crockett coonskin caps.

In the 1960's the returned to TV as another real-life frontiersman. He starred for several years as Dare's fellow Kentuckian Daniel Boone. The coonskin cap returned.

After retiring from acting, he became a successful vintner.

I remember Daniel Boone as one of the first TV shows I regularly watched.  I can't believe I actually worded most of the theme song when I watched that.  Never had the coonskin hat, but I had the jacket.

I remember one time it was pointed out that there was a jet trail overhead during one episode...an early filming mistake.

I can remember the craze for Davy Crockett hats, :good:  but in Britain instead of Coonskin we had some lookalke served up to us from sweatshops in Hong Kong. They sat on the toyshop shelf along side Lone Star toy six guns, plastic 'Bowie knives' and tomahawks also from HK.
