Formula One stars Mark Webber, Nick Heidfeld, Alex Wurz and Scott Speed will join Aussie tennis greats Paul McNamee, Jason Stoltenberg and Richard Fromberg as they swap their helmets for tennis racquets – all in the name of charity.
The 2007 Pit Stop Tennis Pro-Am will be played at Tennis Australia’s Albert Reserve facility on Tuesday, March 13 from 5.15pm.
According to Tournament Founder, Chris Styring, motor sport and tennis fans can get up close and personal with the world’s fastest men and Aussie tennis stars, with funds raised on the night going to the Mark Webber Challenge Foundation. Twelve children from TLC for Kids and Very Special Kids have been invited to attend and will enjoy VIP treatment on the night.
“Last year fans witnessed Fernando Alonso prove that he is not only fast on track, but also at hitting a tennis ball for a good cause.”
Styring encourages fans to be early on the night and to stay tuned for further driver announcements.
“The 2006 event attracted over 1,000 people and this year we have only 450 tickets so with gates opening at 5.00pm people will need to get there early to avoid disappointment.”
While he surrendered his title to Alonso in 2006 Webber is looking forward to serving a few aces and claiming this year’s trophy.
“I am delighted to be part of this year’s event and it’s fantastic we have the support of the F1 drivers and Aussie tennis stars, which will guarantee the spectators a great event and importantly it’s all in aid of Australian children who require support, and what a great way to help them out,” said Webber.
Webber also mentioned that Melbourne Tigers basketball captain, and former ranked junior, Chris Anstey will join the other sports stars in what is sure to be a highly competitive evening.
Davis Cup Captain and defending champion, John Fitzgerald praised the event saying it was a great way to raise awareness for Aussie kids that really need help.
