Hill - President of BRDC?
« on: April 03, 2006, 03:08:27 PM »
Damon Hill has been put forward as a possible successor to current British Racing Drivers' Club president Sir Jackie Stewart, who stands down from the role at the club's AGM later this month.

Hill, the 1996 Formula One world champion, has been a member of the BRDC for some time and has now been proposed as a presidential candidate by Mike Knight and Jackie Oliver, two current members of the board. Stewart has already indicated his intention not to seek re-election as president at the AGM on 28 April.

According to a statement issued on behalf of the BRDC, Hill will receive the unanimous backing of the board, but will have to wait and see whether the membership is as supportive of his candidacy. If successful, he will become only the second F1 champion to hold the post, joining his predecessor, in the 78-year history of the organisation, which has its base at Silverstone.

Perhaps with a younger man at the helm Silverstone will stand more chance of getting it's much needed re-vamp!  :good:

Damon Hill was elected president of the British Racing Drivers' Club, owners of British Grand Prix circuit Silverstone, on Friday.

The 1996 world champion with Williams succeeds triple world champion Jackie Stewart, who is standing down after six often turbulent years at the helm of a club founded in 1928.

Hill's immediate challenge will be to oversee the redevelopment of Silverstone to secure the grand prix's future beyond 2009 after previous proposals met with grass-roots resistance.  :yahoo:
