Both Midlands disqualified
« on: July 31, 2006, 11:47:24 AM »

Both Midland cars have been disqualified from the German Grand Prix following post-race inspection.

Christijan Albers and Tiago Monteiro finished thirteenth and fourteenth, but post race scrutineering of their cars revealed that the: Left hand side and right hand side lower rear wing elements showed excessive flexibility and are therefore not in compliance with Article 3.15 of the 2006 FIA Formula One Technical Regulations.

Just noticed this in the old posts.  A team and two drivers who went on  to great things in F1.

Flappy rear wings.

I guess Midland was ahead of their time...

Hey, one of them managed a podium once... ...oh wait, that happened well before the disqualification (I still have a soft spot for Tiago though).

And the team got quite a few podiums before and one after... ...oh wait, that was under different incarnations of the squad (a squad I've supported through all its incarnations).

The other driver even got into the headlines for doing an aero test on a fuel line... ...oh wait, that wasn't so great (and no, I never really warmed to him).

I was channel surfing last night and hit an episode of the new series Suits. The only thing that made me stop and watch was that they were standing around a Midland F1 car. The episode was titled "Inside Track."

Seems like something I might watch.  I suppose most people watching USA wouldn't realise how absurd it is to have a Midland car represent championship driving.

I always cringe when ANY series builds an episode around racing.

That is the kind of thing that makes me go "what?!?" Even I wouldn't have held the Midlands up as a great example of championship racing - not when their aero budget season was £1.69 (admittedly that was a joke figure given out by then-PR-figurehead Johnny Herbert, but it probably wasn't as far off the truth as management might have liked!)
