There's hope for us old guys yet!
Longtime NASCAR/ARCA driver James Hylton hopes to become the oldest man to run a Sprint Cup race at next year's Daytona 500. Hylton, who will be 74 by February, will team with owner John Carter for the 51st annual 500-miler around Daytona International Speedway. Jim Fitzgerald, at 65 years, 6 months and 20 days old, holds the record for oldest to start a Cup race, on June 6, 1987, at Riverside, California.
Hylton made his Cup debut in 1965, won two races in 601 starts, was the 1966 Rookie of the Year and a three-time series runner-up. He's started 16 Daytona 500s, with a best of third, a lap behind Mario Andretti and Fred Lorenzen in 1967. He holds the record as oldest starter (73 last February) in a Nationwide Series race, but last started a Cup race in 1993.
