Official 2009 entry list
« on: January 13, 2009, 03:43:05 AM »
The sport’s governing body, the FIA, have released this year’s entry list with corresponding numbers for the drivers entered into the championship starting from Lewis Hamilton with the number one for McLaren to number 21 for Force India’s Giancarlo Fisichella.

The Honda Motor Company announced their withdrawal from Formula One on the 5th of December, 2008, however they did not withdraw their entry from the 2009 Formula One World Championship. The FIA understands the team is now for sale, so their positions remain unchanged.

i automatically assumed as Massa finished higher than Raikkonen last year he would run '3' with Kimi taking '4'

Wonder who will fill the 2nd Torro Rosso seat...i believe that Bourdais does deserve another year but i know there's a lot of other exciting drivers out there who could stake claim to the seat.

The decision as to which diver in a team gets which number is effectively left to whoever filled the form. Unless the defending world champion is at the team, whichever driver is listed first at the end of the form gets the lower number.

i always thought the teams let the driver decide/decide who is going to run which number depending on the position in the championship. I always remember JPM saying in 2003 that he had a choice of 3 or 4, and althuogh he'd won many races and championships in his career running a number 4 he opted for the 3 instead.

Maybe Williams admin is a big more organised...or less busy than Ferrari's!

How teams decide which way round to fill their drivers on the form is the business of the individual teams and drivers. If Williams lets its drivers pick their own numbers, that's a good thing. But if a team writes its drivers the wrong way round by mistake, the FIA won't change the numbers around just to please that team or its drivers.

You would think that the driver from the previous season who scored the most points gets the first number, but if that driver is no longer there, it should revert to whoever the team wants to have it.  I don't think it should be up to the drivers at all.  They can put their name around the cockpit, but everything else on the car should be up to the people who actually OWN it.
The Honey Badger doesn't give a...
