Free Sky TV from Ford???
« on: November 23, 2006, 08:05:49 AM »

A spate of car break-ins has been put down to an urban myth which was spread over the internet.

Over 200 Ford cars were broken into in Cardiff in the space of just three nights, as thieves attempted to get free Sky TV.

Police believe that the thefts were down to an internet rumour, which stated that a microchip in Ford's car radios could be inserted into a satellite receiver and allow the user access to all of Sky's channels.  :DD

The rumour has since been quashed, with Sky, Ford and the police completely dismissing the idea.

"It works out that we had almost four times the recorded rate of car crime," said chief superintendent Bob Evans from South Wales Police.

"We have spoken to all parties concerned, including Ford and the satellite providers, and can only conclude that this is nothing more than an urban myth and the microchip cannot be used in this way."

All of the people who had their cars broken into will be feeling particularly miffed at the moment, but spare a thought for Bob Bull.

He also had his car radio stolen, and it's just the latest in a long-run of bad luck for the 60-year-old.

"'Our house was burgled in June," he told icwales.co.uk. "The year before our donkey was stolen, and now this."  :DD

"No Matter how little money and how few possessions, you own, having a dog makes you rich."
