Chip Ganassi Racing has confirmed that, as expected, it has signed the reigning Indy 500 and IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti for the 2008 NASCARSprint Cup Series season.

The 34-year-old was released from his contract with Andretti Green Racing earlier this week, fuelling speculation that a move to NASCAR was imminent, with Chip Ganassi's outfit confirming that he will drive the #40 Dodge alongside Reed Sorenson and Juan Pablo Montoyanext season at the start of a multi-year deal.

"Any time you can sign a driver of Dario's calibre you have to be thrilled," Ganassi said. "Dario is a world-class driver. He is a proven winner, an Indianapolis500 champion and an accomplished individual that will be a super team-mate to both Juan Pablo and Reed."

While I'm not a big fan of Nascar I think
people underestimate it.

The cars are anything but stock and it's
high speed wheel to wheel racing with
concrete walls in case of a accident.

It's certainly not a Sunday drive,right Cos

While the cars are all basically 1966 Ford Galaxies with 1968 Chevy pick-up rear control arms, they do have some good races, especially on the short tracks. How can you put 43 cars at 800 hp each on a 1/2 mile track and not have fun! Sadly, NASCAR seems to have the same problem as F1. They're dumping all the fine old tracks, like Rockingham, North Wilksboro and even Darlington, for big money, Boring Charlotte Clones like Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, California, Texas.....

NASCAR is becoming F1's retirement home. JPM, JV, Watkins Glen, Montreal, Toyota.....

By the way, Dare, did you hear that Busch is getting out of NASCAR? Starting next year, Nationwide Insurance from up in Columbus will replace them as title sponsor of the Grand National series. (NASCAR's version of GP2)

You're right about NASCAR and IndyCar. Could you imagine getting 1/24 or 1/18 scale F1 die cast for under $20? I got a great faux leather IndyCar jacket at a Dave & Berry's store for $9.99. NASCAR, IRL, Champ Car, NHRA, all have free video on their website. They're all over YouTube, also. Several American pro sports leagues have set up their own channels on YouTube for a cut of the ad money and gotten great results.

I like the clip of JPM. Now there's a great idea for F1: Ron and Luca in a cage match smackdown!

Back in the old days, Donnie, Cale, LeeRoy, AJ and the boys were men enough to take off their helmets before they mixed it up.

Not that I ever did anything like that back in my short track days........ ;)

No way is Bernie going to show videos for free.  BBC Radio 5 carry live commentary on all the races.  Like most radio stations you can listen to all their programs online.  All except the F1 programs because Bernie won't let them put them on the net.

Should Nascar introduce a facemask rule?
