Fittipaldi gets ALMS Ride
« on: November 15, 2007, 04:50:01 PM »
Andretti Green Racing signed veteran driver Christian Fittipaldi, to race for its #26 XM Satellite Radio Acura LMP2-class American Le Mans Series team in 2008. Fittipaldi will team with Bryan Herta for the 12-round season.

Fittipaldi, the son of former Formula One driver and team owner Wilson Fittipaldi and nephew of legendary F1 and CART driver Emerson Fittipaldi, has competed in Formula One, CART, NASCAR and sports cars. His sports car experience includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2006 and 2007, driving a Saleen S7R for ACEMCO Motorsports in 2006 to a fifth-place GT1 finish. He drove an Aston Martin DBR9 for Team Modena this year. Fittipaldi is also a 24 Hours of Daytona champion and won the 1993 24 Hours of Spa.

The 36-year old native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, drove three seasons in Formula One before moving to the United States to drive in the CART Champ Car Series. Fittipaldi collected two CART victories; one at Road America and one at Fontana, and finished a career-best fifth in the CART championship in 1996 and 2002. For the past five seasons Fittipaldi has driven sports cars in Grand-Am, highlighted by a victory at the 2004 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.

Fittipaldi teamed with AGR chairman Michael Andretti to create a formidable duo at Newman-Haas Racing in CART from 1996-2000.
