Title: What the heck - yet another blue flag rant
Post by: Canada Darrell™ on September 28, 2011, 09:37:37 PM
Blue flags....

I HATE THEM!

Seriously, a waved blue flag means one car stops "racing" and that is not why I am watching!

My reasoning is this:

-If you are lapping another car you are obviously faster than them so shut up and pass them!

-There are rules regarding blocking (or not depending on what side of the Schumacher fence you reside on! :) ) so a slower car cannot block a faster car to prevent the pass.

-It may take YOU longer to pass a slower car than your opponent....too bad so sad...that's RACING

And if you insist on having blue flags then you should not be able to be passed by a 2nd slower car behind you taking advantage of you being forced to slow for the coming faster car.

Right on CD, blue flags should only ever be a warning of faster car behind; end of.  >:(

When were the current blue flag rules implemented, and what was the rationale?

I can imagine a situation where a close championship (without enforced blue flags) can be decided by backmarkers holding up specific cars while letting others through.  Would that be allowed?  How would it be policed by the Ferrari International Assistance?

Blue flags suck...should be outlawed.  Only in F1 could there be a conspiracy that some backmarkers would let through some leaders easily, while others not.  I think as long as a backmarker gives room on the straights (as in doesn't weave down them trying to block), then lapping cars should be able to pass...after all they did LAP the car they're passing, didn't they?  Surely they have enough speed on the straight bits of the track to pass without a red carpet being laid down for them.

Not the greatest fan of blue flags myself, but then I'm not the greatest fan of seeing a fight for top positions or race victory spoiled by back markers either.
