Some say, it strikes fear into the bravest soldier, and the Devil himself had a hand in its creation. All we know is it’s called the GPWizard Advent Competition 2009!
The Competition (Please read carefully)
Every day for the first 24 days in December a Question or Letter will be placed on the GPWizard advent calendar (navigation at the top of the page). Answers to the questions also represent a letter. i.e Answer = Jenson Button then the letter for the day will be either 'J' or 'B'. This will be clearly indicated on the day.
The aim is to collect 24 individual letters and rearrange them into a Christmas sentence.
Once you have the complete sentence you will need to PM with your answer. It is in your interest not to post your answer on the site as members who have not been following the competition will all know your answer.
I will only accept answers received on 24th December.
If more than one correct entry is received then the winner will be chosen at random. It would not be fair to accept the first answer due to worldwide members time zones.
If you miss a question or letter, then you can still try and complete the sentence, it will just be a little harder for you.
Any questions or comments? Please post them below for all to see.
The Prize
The Really Nasty Motor Racing Game
This is a game with a difference and hopefully a prize that will keep your family and friends amused for hours
(http://www.gpwizard.co.uk/images/prizes/prize2.jpg)
No driving ability needed - only those prepared to plot scheme and make bitter enemies of their closest friends will take the road to victory. Only the downright devious will triumph! Conjure up a spot of wet weather just as your opponent leaves the pit lane with dry weather tyres or cause a failure in their pit crew's equipment. Increase your chances with a craftily-placed oil spill or decide to give the leading driver a puncture as they near the finish line. This is no ordinary race... this is a Really Nasty race!
The Rules
One Question or letter will be placed on the advent calendar per day.
Answers to each Question will represent a letter i.e if the answer is Jenson Button then the letter for the day will be either 'J' or 'B' as indicated on the day.
The completed Christmas sentence must be PM to me on 24th December - all submissions before or after this date will be dismissed.
If more than one correct entry is received then the winner will be chosen at random.
Good Luck!

Some also say that Wizzo is really Clarkson in disguise. :DD
-
I'm looking forward to it. :fool: :fool: :fool:
Seriously, can't wait, and the game looks like a blast.
-
The game might be a blast Scott but the comp will blast your brain, it done mine in last year.
-
Tut tut Wizzo, did'nt you know that it's JenSON and not JenSEN. :DD
-
trust you to point that out! :-[
-
Does that mean we're going to have some of the wrong letters as answers? ;)
You might as well post me the prize now ;)
-
A word from the wise: You may want to make a note of what day you get each letter. :tease:
-
There he goes throwing wrenches again.
-
Thats because he's just watched Dodgeball Scott.
-
Nothing like starting the ole Grid Game Comp with a little T & A :tease: :tease:
Not meant to offend, girls, just couldn't resist...

I'd tell you but then Wizzo would have
to sent the hit squad after me
-
Just me or is this competition a b**ch!!
I'm saving the questions and then spending an hour or two reserching the answers when I get a chance.
-
Hehe David, welcome to Wizzo's wonderful world of wilful brain damage infliction, don't worry, you'll grow to love him. :DD
-
I'm starting to think the answer must be in Finnish or something...
Are we going to get another one of those xxxx xx xxxx xx xx xxxxxxx hints or something?
-
Just me or is this competition a b**ch!!
I'm saving the questions and then spending an hour or two reserching the answers when I get a chance.
I think this years has been easy so far, only 2 answers
I'n not 100% sure about it/First years was 10 times harder
-
Oh yeah, it used to be a lot worse. At least now he shows you the hints in one place. He used to hide letters all over the bloody place - could take hours to find them. :fool: :fool:
-
That WAS a nightmare before was'nt it, they were here, there and everywhere. Thank Wizzo for small mercy's.
-
Really easy this year. 100% confident i've got them all so far :)
-
I think I have them all too, but I don't see any english words :tease: :tease:
-
The veterans say its easy, and the first timers say its hard.
I'm still on the easy stuff at the moment, I was going to turn it up a notch or three

"What was the third letter of the middle name of the waitress who served Froilan Gonzalez lunch on the Saturday of the 1951 F1 race at Bremgarten?"
-
What was the third letter of the middle name of the waitress's DOG who served Froilan Gonzalez lunch on the Saturday of the 1951 F1 race at Bremgarten?"
Ah thats better. :DD
-
The waitress's dog served Gonzalez lunch? No wonder they did away with that race. :swoon:
And to think that Bernie complained about the hotels in Indy!
-
I saw today's clue we just had to go and make
him mad saying it was too easy didn't we
update
GOT IT WIZ :tease:

Your going to what!! These are the easy ones!!
I'll be able to go on Mastermind with all my research.
-
I did the advent comp last year and i almost had a breakdown. At one point i had 5 family/friends trying to find answers for me.I was told that if i did it this year i was on my own so i havnt even tried.I didnt want to spend christmas locked up in a institution mumbling about advent competitions :D :D
-
Bah, humbug greener, it's only a game. :DD
-
Truth be told Ian i havnt been able to get on line for the last couple of weeks so ive missed all the questions anyway
-
Now thats a bummer greener, shame mate. :(
-
That one was nasty Wiz (todays)...but I got it. :tease: :tease:
-
That one was nasty Wiz (todays)...but I got it. :tease: :tease:
I agree Scott. Much harder than it has been. Took me about 5 minutes today.
-
EZ EZ
bring on the hard ones,if you DARE
-
What are you trying to do to us Dare, but I must admit, today's is the first one giving me real trouble. >:D
-
Today's was easy, Ian. Cain got a driveby for an intentional shunt on Abel. ;)
-
:DD :DD :DD, cheers Cos.
-
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRG! I HATE THESE 'The letter is hidden somewhere on the site' clues. They are completely clueless. I checked where Wiz had gone today, but obviously he's hacking his own site, 'cause there's nothing there.
It's not fair - I don't have time to browse two year old posts!

-
It's not fair - I don't have time to browse two year old posts!
I wouldn't expect you to Scott - I never hide anything in the forum itself as this would make it impossible to find.
Everyone was saying how easy it was this year. Ok here is a clue, find Father Christmas and you find the letter - easy!
-
Ho Ho Ho, cherrs Wizzo. :good:
-
I've found two Santas but I dammed if I see a letter.
-
I'd like to retract my EZ post
-
Hmm you got me today.
-
Hmm you got me today.
me too :'(
-
hold on hold on I think I found i oh heck it's a
picture of Cos not Father Time ;)
-
Yesterdays letter was here in the games section http://www.gpwizard.co.uk/index.php?pid=16 simply click on 'Speedy Santa'
-
Wizzo, it comes up with ....Error not found
-
And it did yesterday too...I actually checked there, unless it's that big 'E' in 'Error'. :tease: :tease:
-
Ahh man you guys pulling my plonker?
It works for me :DntKnw:
-
Well, he fooled me Scott, I looked at the santa on the advent page and thought, aha, santa's belt buckle spells an 'E'
-
Seriously, the link's broken for me, and has been for a while. I actually wanted to try that game a week or so ago and couldn't get anything but an error. I thought that maybe the link was broken to the site that was hosting it or something.
I actually put the E down too Ian, but I wasn't sure as it was too obvious.
-
OK guys, its not fair if the link is broken so the only way forward is to let everyone have yesterdays letter.
Letter No.17 = W
-
Thanks Wiz. I bet it is the key to the whole competition. :D
-
it gave me the error code too
-
Are you sure about todays (18th) Wizzo
-
Whoops, disregard last post. HeHaw. :fool: :-[
-
The game doesn't work for me either.
-
Yesterdays letter was here in the games section http://www.gpwizard.co.uk/index.php?pid=16 simply click on 'Speedy Santa'
Shouldn't have said anything...I would have thought you had me stumped. :tease: :tease:
-
The link for the Santa game wouldn't work for me either last night, I can't believe how much time I spent looking for the hidden letter. As soon as I read the clue Wiz posted it was the first thing I thought of too, and when it didn't work I thought it can't be there.
Thanks for the by ball Wiz. :good:
-
I'm not frustrated by the Advent compe at all this year..... mostly cos I'm not playing.... missed too many letters when I was away at the start of the month.... good luck everyone.... looks like Wiz and I will be the only ones not in a straight jacket for Christmas.
LOL
Rom :good:
-
Hey guys,
I have no Internet connection at the moment so the advent competition is paused for today and there will be bonus letters up for grabs later this weekend.
Hopefully normal service will be resumed shortly.
Wizzo
-
Coo, a bit of brain relief. :DD
-
:yahoo: BONUS LETTER DAY! :yahoo:
This is the day when you can ask me for one of the letters you missed. You can either post what day/letter you want here for all to see or if you don't want other players to see then PM me.
Wizzo
:D
-
16 for me Wiz. :good:
-
thanks for the kind offer but no
assistance is required

Now to put the letters together,my worst kind of puzzle
-

First Drive Through Penalty - Montoya - 4th letter = T (thought I'd help out since Wiz might still be having internet trouble).
-
Scott is indeed correct.
First Drive Through Penalty - Montoya - 4th letter = T

Dare and Cos I've PM'd your letters to you :DD
You rat :tease:
-
Cheers Scotty!! You might not know it but that's twice you have helped me out. :good:
-
Yeah, yeah, I know, Day one and two I gave away (I thought we were all geared up to go, and since there wasn't even a clue, I thought it was no issue, but apparently not). Of course this time Wiz said post it here if you want him to post it publicly otherwise he'd pm you...well you posted it here, so I thought I'd help you out. Of course Wiz is playing more than one game here (as usual), so I've been blindsided. Cheers for any help I've been. :D :D
-
Can't believe anyone needs help :tease:
-
on 2nd thought I could use the answer to day 8
-
on 2nd thought I could use the answer to day 8
Best you see todays advent Dare. ::)
Of course Wiz is playing more than one game here
As long as you're all enjoying yourselves! :DD
-
So this isn't two new letters, it's literally change day eights letter?
-
As long as you're all enjoying yourselves! :DD
There's an old joke about a toothache: It feels so good once it's over!
-
Wizzo's getting sneaky now ain't he, hope you all took notice of his tip at the beginning to date the letters.
-
So this isn't two new letters, it's literally change day eights letter?
Correct you are changing the letter from day 8.
Wizzo's getting sneaky now ain't he
Sneaky? Moi?
-
A little clue for today - You will know when you have the right answer because the 3rd and 4th letters are the same BUT it has nothing to do with getting married.
I would hate for you guys to drop the ball so close to the finish line. :D
-
Is that a joke? Change 4th letter to 6th letter? They were already the same lol
-
So are we getting a hang man clue??
-
Is that a joke? Change 4th letter to 6th letter? They were already the same lol
Are they? :DntKnw:
So are we getting a hang man clue??
Does anybody need a hangman clue?
-
Ooh I think I've nearly got it...
Hold off on the hangman lol
-
Hmm leave the hangman until after tomorrows ;)
-
Todays one has done me. :DntKnw:
-
Use Google but think carefully about your search term Ian.
-
Over here, you need a licence to do almost anything!
-
We can always dispute that one because like most places, you need a license for tons of things - driving, boating, running a restaurant etc...
-
Anyone got an E yet?
-
Thats a good point Scott, the most common letter in the English language and we ain't got one yet.
-
I think that will come tomorrow. Well it would have done if nobody mentioned it. Now it will come on Christmas Eve :P
-
Sounds like you're in cahoots with the Wiz Slugger - got an inside track, do you??
-
Over here, you need a licence to do almost anything!
I got the answer Cos, and you above statement would appear to be true. While researching the answer I came across some crackin' rules and regs from America, and they say the Irish are mad!!
Q1 has to be a wind up, I have the letters the same for both days. Wish I could remember the questions now
-
Still stuffed on it. >:D
-
Sounds like you're in cahoots with the Wiz Slugger - got an inside track, do you??
I just know how he works Scott ;)
-
Got the one I want. I like the rule in Jasper Alabama, it's illegal for a man to beat his wife with a stick larger in diameter than his thumb. :DD :yahoo:
-
Got the one I want. I like the rule in Jasper Alabama, it's illegal for a man to beat his wife with a stick larger in diameter than his thumb. :DD :yahoo:
That law actually started in England back a few centuries ago, Ian. It's where the phrase "rule of thumb" comes from.
-
I think the hang man clue would be good now lol
-
At this point, I'm not even sure what language the answer is supposed to be in!
-
I have lots of English words, just can't fit use them all at once or make a sentence out of the ones I can
-
OK Guys only one more letter to come, and guess what? Its not an e! :tease:
Below is the hangman type clue that you may, (or may not), need.
-----/-----/--/------/--/----
:yahoo: Bonus: :yahoo: You may PM me for a clue, I will give you the first letter of one of the words of your choice.
Remember you must PM me with your final answers on the 24th.
Well done for making it to the end and good luck! :good:
-
Blimey, 23 is gonna take some research, I know which fictional tv part has the most (I think,) but we could be talking tv or films, historical or fictional characters, looks like eyes closed and stab with a pin.
-
Hmm I think I might have it.
-
Think I've got it too Sluggs, it's
-----/-----/--/------/--/---- :DD :DD :DD :tease:
-
Lol :good:
-
:good: Wiz, my lips are sealed. :tease:
-
How're you drinking your beer? :fool: :fool:
-
Thats a good thought Scott, ok, my fingers won't give it away. :good:
-
I take it there are no more clues on offer??

Congrats, Williamsfan! :yahoo:
The Advent competition is always a brain-twister.
-
Congrats Williamsfan, enjoy your great prize. :good:
I must confess to not taking part, I was expecting to have left for the holiday break before Xmas Eve and be off the net. However as it turned out I was delayed and left midday Xmas Eve. I did enjoy having a stab at the questions each day but never wrote awnsers down. :'(
So "Good Game, Good Game" as Brucie would say. you have done it again Wizzo. :yahoo:
-

I needed the sort order, so I asked for the first letter as my clue. Once I knew Santa was the first word, it all fell into place. As for the most actors to play which role, it is certainly Napoleon (over 300 on IMDB vs Sherlock with a measly 200+), although as Wiz pointed out, Sherlock has an L in the same place, so the result was the same.
-
Is that the same Napoleon (Bonaparte) though Scott or just a character called Napoleon?
-
I believe they were all Bonaparte.
http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0027456/ (http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0027456/)
Sherlock on the other hand:

Talking of substitute answers the City of Hood River official website states that licenses are issued for soliciting. :o
You can check it out if you don't believe me, :P (legal people are called attorneys in the states not Solicitors as here in England). The license also allows for soliciting from house to house. :-[ :nono: :stop:
