Heroes
Mercedes.  They've got the class of the field.  The engine and car are both working well.  The team has strategy down.  The mechanics made a heroic rebuild of Antonelli's cars to get him into qualifying.

Russell.  One race, one win.  The opening laps featured an epic fight with LeClerc.  It was very clean, very strategic, and I think what everyone was hoping the new regs would deliver.

Antonelli.  Fantastic race, only outdone by his teammate.

LeClerc.  Third place after a strong opening battle with Russell.  As I said above, the fight was intense, but also respectful and fair.  I feel like Charles has a good feeling for what his car can do.

Hamilton.  A fantastic race, his opening lap was absolutely epic, from his launch, to winding through the field, to backing off when he needed to to gain other opportunities.

Verstappen.  As much as I hate to admit it, he's such a talented driver, there would have to be an absolute disaster to have a race without him as a hero.  The car failed him in qualifying, setting the stage for him to carve through the field.  He may publicly hate the car/rules, he may have been let down by the car, but he still has his almost supernatural connection to the car that lets him get the most out of it.

Stroll.  Completed the race in car many thought wouldn't make the start.  Certainly not an all time race, but an accomplishment none the less.

Zeroes
Ferrari strategy.  I don't believe that there was a path for Ferrari to win the race against Mercedes, but I also feel like they didn't try either.  You've got two cars running in basically the same position, two virtual safety cars, pit one driver, and give yourself two paths for luck to hit you.

Aston Martin/Honda.  I know making an F1 car is difficult, but 10 other teams managed it.  Williams and Cadillac might not have been able to do much, but they didn't feel like disasters, just disappointments.

Driver wise, I don't think anyone was especially bone headed.  All the crashes/DNFs felt like they were car related, and we expected problems.

Special Mention:  the new rules.

I think that as a spectator, they worked.  The opening laps were fantastic, there was plenty of passing during the race.  Teams struggled a little with strategy, but that's part of learning the new ways things operate.  There were technical issues, but that was expected too.  We had 8 different teams scoring points.  Every team finished at least one car.  The race itself was no bloodbath, so whatever difficulties the drivers had with the cars, control in close racing wasn't one of them.

If anyone wonders why there is 3 dnf's instead of 5 we've alway's
had a rule you must start the race to be counted as a dnf.

As far as a rain race I'd like a more democratic way of deciding instead
of relying on my decision.

I'm of 2 minds with the current cars. They're pretty fast and they look cool with really advanced tech..
                         BUT...
Does the really advanced tech take away from the excitement that should be F1.
I don't know.
The synthetic fuel thing is something I can get behind...BUT...the price for the fuel is approximately $640–$1,100 per gallon. Not good.
The battery tech is obviously the future that the overlords are requiring us to use  BUT...as we've seen in qualy it doesn't work in a race environment. By that I mean it is causing the drivers to not drive the cars to their max but the the cars needs. And what happens in a crash, we've all seen runaway battery fires. Not good.
I'm looking forward to the race and the rest of the season...go Audi..go Arvin and of course my boy, Carlos. :P

Came across this article about the new F1 'Green' fuel production, by Timothy it's a complicated process and God knows how much it will all cost.  ::)

This little dust up in the middle east is causing logistic delays in getting gear and team members to the show. Kym Illman had a good video on YT about it. Since no flights are passing through Dubai or Qatar teams are having to go the long way from the UK to get to Melbourne. Does look like the show will go on though.

Concorde special deals trumps winning top F1 honours. Even the lowest still make big sums though.

One detection point then overtake boost lasts a whole lap not just specific zones.

As Pitpass.com says, any questions send a postcard to FIA or Liberty.  :DD

Seems like Toto was up to usual F1 sandbagging when protesting heavily about change of Regs on engine compression, he's now voted in favour of new earlier hot testing.  :swoon:

He'll say it was about the principal of fairness to stick to the printed rulebook, and that's a good point, however he was probably not as fussed as other PU makers were over subject, it appears he simply used the controversy to wind up rivals.  ;)

According to Motorsport-Magazin, the proposal to introduce a new fuel compression ratio check in August is off aggenda.
It will now arrive in June instead, suprisingly all 5 engine makers voted in favour - even Merc.  |-(

Mercedes’ rivals changed their minds about the August timeline after Toto Wolff’s surprisingly positive reaction. Two months earlier than planned, the engines will be tested at 130 degrees, in addition to the pre-existing room temperature checks.

From 2027, the power units will only be measured when hot. Contrary to the prevailing understanding, the compression ratio actually drops on track, so it should be easier to comply with the 16:1 limit in theory.

Now for the rub: Motorsport-Magazin also reports Merc have apparently found a way to reach 16.3:1 at temperature, much lower than the 18:1 that’s been widely touted but still a meaningful advantage, with competitors only at 15.2:1 when hot.  :D
