- A local family may be in possession of the art find of the century, according to the New York Post.

An unfinished painting of Jesus and Mary that hung on the living room wall of a Western New York family's home may be a lost Michelangelo, and a scientific analysis of the painting shows that the claim may in fact be true.

Martin Kober, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, began researching the painting back in 2003. He contacted various museums and art scholars from all over the world and it could be the real deal, according to Italian Art Historian Antonio Forcellino.

"The evidence of unfinished portions demonstrate that this painting never, never, never could be a copy of another painting," Forcellino told the New York Post. "No patron pays in the Renaissance for an unfinished copy."

Kober says the painting was willed to his great grand father's sister in law, who sent the painting to America in 1883. It is now being kept in a bank vault. Should the painting be the real work of Michelangelo, it could be worth as much as $300 million.

They have a pretty solid history that also points to it being genuine as well. What a find.
