Title: Senna could lose drive at the Campos MkII team
Post by: John S on February 25, 2010, 04:47:20 PM

Looks like the Senna name may not be back on the grid this year after all, this piece is taken from a much longer story on bbc.co.uk/sport

US F1's main backer, YouTube founder Chad Hurley, is in discussions over a switch to rival new team Campos and this could lead to Bruno Senna losing his drive.

There is no chance of US F1 attending the first few races even if the FIA does not give them permission to miss them. They have no race team - only a team manager and a single mechanic - and all the suppliers have been put on hold.

The team's employees have been paid up to the end of last month, but are waiting nervously to see whether their salaries will be paid on schedule on Friday. The US F1 team could also lose their only signed driver, the Argentine Jose Maria Lopez, to Campos as a result of any deal between them and Hurley.

Brazilian novice Bruno Senna, the nephew of the late F1 legend Ayrton, has signed to race for Campos in 2010. But new boss at Campos, Kolles, refused to confirm Senna's place, saying: "We will make an announcement on drivers very soon." The Indian GP2 front-runner Karun Chandhok is expected to be announced as Campos's second driver imminently.

But Senna's manager Chris Goodwin told BBC Sport there was "no reason to think Bruno won't be part of the team". Senna's future at Campos is uncertain following a change of management. With US F1's hopes of being on the grid now virtually non-existent, Lopez could be an appealing prospect for Campos as he brings with him a reputed $8m (£5.2m) in sponsorship.

Both Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok do not deserve race seat in F1 in the first place. If they are on the grid, I will not be surprise if they end up with DNF in most races or complete the race 3 or 4 laps behind. I do not know much about Lopez but I don't expect him to be any better than Senna or Chandhok.  :nono:

One report I read said Bruno had been asked to give more cash to keep his seat.

I am sure he can afford to pay lots of cash to keep the seat but in the end, it is his performance that matters. I would not be surprise if he end up like Piquet Jr 1.5 years from now.  :nono:

This is silly. A contract should be a contract; if the team doesn't like the situation it's in, it has itself to blame!

It seems this Hurley guy does not understand contracts. Or he is arrogant enough (and with deep enough pockets) to not care.
Sad really.
He made his money too easily as most internet based business' have and does not appreciate the hard work ethic that the folks at USF1 have.
He is just jumping ship to what he thinks will give him more exposure.

This move has given him lots of exposure, just not the positive kind.

Kimi's got a contract.  Who's he driving for?

F1's a tough business, and if Senna isn't happy... then this isn't the business for him.

At least Kimi and Ferrari took the trouble to negotiate their way out of the contract, and Kimi compensated accordingly. And Kimi had been allowed a go (well, several) in the Ferrari before the latter decided it was best to change things around. The two parties also remembered to sort it all out before Ferrari confirmed its driver line-up, which is generally a good idea from a regulatory standpoint. It may not be ideal for Kimi or his supporters, but it is at least legal.

Demanding money off a driver who was previously told they wouldn't need any, before that driver has even been in the car once, is against the law (and the regulations, since Bruno Senna was mentioned on Campos' entry). The last thing Campos needs right now is a lawsuit and a furious FIA. Especially if its proclamation that it will make Bahrain proves the least bit optimistic.

This kinda makes me think of Network Rail Ali, first they offer Early Severance to everybody who applies for it, then they quickly get rid of all the dead wood, ie....those with a medical reason for not being allowed on track or unable to work, then they postpone it until the union agrees the new terms and conditions, pure blackmail.
