Title: Ferrari Halo Mirrors
Post by: cosworth151 on May 12, 2018, 04:38:32 PM
Ferrari has added mirrors to their Halo bar for Barcelona. The FIA Innovation Police have already outlawed them starting with Monaco. Ferrari says that they are just to provide the drivers a better view and don't effect aero. They've even provided a nice wing brace to help steady them from above.

I'm surprised they're allowed for this race, given that they would impinge upon Halo's ability to do its job (the mirrors are not crash-tested, and could turn into inwashed debris in the sort of impact where Halo is expected to be employed).

:DntKnw: Always wondered why that such a high tech sport still uses old fashioned mirrors. One or two cameras on the rear wing, with display screens where the mirrors would be... or better yet incorporated in the helmet visor.... would be much more workable.

Ferrari said they couldn't make the change on such short notice.

Mirrors are a lot easier to sneak aero into. I think it's funny that they made the teams move the mirrors off the those long vertical wings supports. The mirrors are back on the bodies but the now headless supports live on.

Totally agree with you...could even make it a 180 camera on the air intake so the driver could turn his head and see blind spots and everything behind.

I think the mirrors are interesting and more appealing than some of the teams efforts (and they ALL have some kind of wing worked into the mirrors), but I agree with Aliana that if something whacked the halo, it would probably push the mirrors inside the cockpit, in fact most of the mirrors on other could easily end up in the cockpit.

Have to agree mirrors are so 20th century, for the cutting edge of motorsport cameras are the only route.

Mind you not sure cameras will cure Wrecker Romain's spatial awareness or physical orientation.  ;)

Cars should be fitted with alarms that sound when Grosjean and Max get within 100 yards
