Title: Advent Competition
Post by: Wizzo on November 30, 2007, 08:20:49 PM
Everything you need to know to enter the daily Advent Competition and have a crack at the grand prize. I hope you like this one.

The Competition
Every day for the first 24 days in December a 'Christmas Letter' will be placed somewhere on the GPWizard site.

The aim is to collect all 24 letters and rearrange them into a Christmas phrase.

Once you have the phrase you will need to either PM or Email me with your answer. It is in your interest not to post your answer on the site as members who have not been collecting letters will all know your answer.

I will only accept answers received on 24th December.

If more than one member submits the correct answer, (and I suspect they will), I will randomly pick the winner out of a hat.

If you miss a letter or letters, then you can still try and complete the phrase, it will just be a little harder for you.

Remember you may have to hunt around for some of the letters.

Any questions or comments? Please post them below for all to see.

The Grand Prize
A pair of OMP racing gloves signed by 2007 F1 Drivers Champion Kimi Raikkonen!

These gloves are in mint condition and was signed by Kimi at the Jerez test circuit in Spain - these would look amazing in a frame.

They come complete with a certificate of authenticity.

The Rules
One letter will be placed on the site per day.
Letters will be placed on GPWizard in different locations.
Letters will be graphical and 'obvious' that they are part of the competition.
Completed Christmas phrases must be PM or Emailed to me on 24th December - all phrases submitted before or after this date will be dismissed.
If more than one correct entry is received then the winner will be chosen at random.

Good Luck!

Its not that difficult today dare, you're probably looking too hard. Remember the letters are graphical and todays has a little toy soldier next to it.

If you still have trouble then perhaps another member might be kind enough to help you in the chat room??

It's gonna get more difficult than this.  :(

All guesses must be received ON the 24th December

Don't worry it's not the first received that counts, as long as your answer is submitted on the 24th then you'll either win or be entered into the hat with the other correct entries.

Hope you're enjoying this, some have dropped out already (as I knew they would) but beware - it will get harder.

Title: Re: Advent Competition
Post by: Alianora La Canta on December 10, 2007, 06:05:21 PM
This is patently unfair. How exactly am I meant to process an invisible letter, if and when I find it?
Title: Re: Advent Competition
Post by: Wizzo on December 10, 2007, 06:06:33 PM
Its not impossible, I know of one member who's got todays for sure.

Don't worry if you miss a few, you will still be able to take a stab at the answer.
Title: Re: Advent Competition
Post by: Alianora La Canta on December 10, 2007, 06:07:20 PM
If I can't process the letter if and when I find it, then I won't be able to get the letter no matter what I do.
Title: Re: Advent Competition
Post by: Wizzo on December 10, 2007, 06:19:45 PM

I think you misunderstand Ali, your question about today's letter indicates the letter is invisible, of course its not, in fact it is very visible, once you home in on the link to it.

Its like trying to find hidden treasure - X marks the spot
Title: Re: Advent Competition

Title: Re: Advent Competition
Post by: Alianora La Canta on December 10, 2007, 08:17:35 PM
That was annoying. Since the link rendered in the same colour as the surrounding text on my browser, I eventually only found the link by random frustrated clicking. There was literally no other way to tell there was anything there (even the browser's link destination function didn't show anything in the bottom-left hand corner - I don't understand how you got round that one).

As there have now been at least three days where the supposed link hasn't been usable by my browser, I have to assume that I cannot possibly run in this game. Yesterday, rom and I were using the same link and getting completely different results (he got the letter (I think) and I just got a "trick" page). I am now fed up with this game and am officially withdrawing from it.

I worked for a company a few years ago and they were having quality problems with some product.  The lab scrapped batch after batch of it.  I suggested as a joke that they get this as their theme song and play it every time they scrapped a batch.  I was in the lab the following Monday to ask how a batch had gone.  He didn't say anything he just pressed the play button.

I can't. I already don't know enough of the letters to guess at the phrase. And changing the browser isn't really an option for me - the only other option I know about is IE, and that locks my system up too many times for that to be a practical option.

Today's letter is not hidden - What!? I hear you cry!

Its simple, the letter is in the the site title 'GPWIZARD'. You need to take the title and turn it upside down and see what letters are still readable.

For example: if we turn GPWIZARD upside down the P becomes a b. I'll give you this one for free, today's letter is not a b!

How many other letters could today's letter be?
Title: Re: Advent Competition
Post by: Ian on December 19, 2007, 12:11:06 PM
Not so Wiz, Z remains Z and W becomes W,what are you playing at
Title: Re: Advent Competition
Post by: Alianora La Canta on December 19, 2007, 12:27:58 PM
Don't forget the I remains an I and the stylised D at the end becomes a C. And the P doesn't turn into a b, it turns into a d.

Perhaps this was a bad idea??

Ok I've already said its not b, therefore the only letters left are M and I and if you really want to push it D.

Oh what the hell, its either M or I.  ::)

Phew!

I had an advantage today. I got used to reading things upside down by looking at my car after several races!

Today's letter isn't sneaky.  It is in the first place I have started looking every day since this competition began.  It had to be there one day.

OK we are nearing the end of the competition and I'm feeling particularly festive today so I will help you all with the following:

I have kept a record of every letter posted on each day, if you have missed any letters then you may post the day you missed below, (1-20), and I will give you the letter hidden for that day.

Each member may ask for one day each. Think wisely!

Remember your answers should be sent to me on a personal message. Good Luck everyone!  :good:

The correct answer to the competition was 'we wish you a Merry Christmas'

There was a total of seven correct entries and I'm sure you will join me in congratulating Cosworth who was the first drawn randomly out of the GPWizard hat.

Well done Cos!  :yahoo: and well done to anyone who made it through to the end of this mind bending and sometimes frustrating competition.  :good:

Look out for more competitions soon. :D

Thank you very much, Wizzo! It's certainly most generous of you! :yahoo:

To everyone else, thank you for the good wishes. I hope you all survived your yuletide revels intact.

The gloves will find a home in the glass front case in my living room, with the rest of my most prized F1 goodies.

Once again, thank you all for your friendship and all the good fellowship here at GP Wizard.

Happy New Year to all,

Cos

You're welcome, Cos. I had a good Christmas, with some nice presents and a nice convivial atmosphere. I visited Grandma and one of Dad's friends, and my brother's family came to visit as well.

Congrats Cos - but really, do you need gloves down in Ohio?  I just lost mine, and it's chilly over here in the Alps - how 'bout dropping them in the mail to me?

Seriously, it was a great contest and wonderful prize...I just wish I had time to have hunted for more myself.  Maybe next time.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and fantastic New Year.  And Wiz, I'm really thrilled I found your forum, I've had a lot of fun on it and look forward to more of the same in '08.

The gloves have arrived! :yahoo:

I'm going to frame them, perhaps with a pix or two I've taken of Kimi. Since Claw_Grrrl is much better at such things, I'll be getting her help. I'll post a pix of it when it's done!
